Metabolic Testing?

Recommended Posts

In two weeks I have an appointment for metabolic testing and an exercise test. Did anyone else go through this?

I had to do a metabolic test. It was really easy. I just had to sit comfortably in a chair and breathe into a machine for about 15 minutes. It measured how many calories my body burns just to stay alive. It actually was really interesting. For my height and weight my body should be using about 2500 calories, but the test showed that I am only using 1400. So my metabolism is pretty slow. I was able to adjust my calories for the day on my fitness pal app and hopefully will be able to see more weight loss. My insurance wants me to lose 10 pounds this month. So for me that test was really helpful!

Yes I did it, and it helped me feel better about how poorly I had been doing even when I was eating clean. The test I took was Medgem. Apparently someone my size should have been burning 1900 calories at rest, but I was only burning 1025. I've been able to lose 38lbs in almost 4 months by going to 1000 calories a day. It reaffirmed that I need surgery.

Yes. I am still waiting for surgery. This was done the same day as my initial consultation. They gave me a bunch of lab orders. The metabolic test and the scope down into my stomach were the only two tests they actually did there in the office. Everything else I had to go to a lab for. I am hoping to get the rest of those results this week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
