Been Down Lately

Recommended Posts

I've been so down and lost lately my highest weight was 410 and my weight now is 236 I've been in a stall for 9 months now. I've been working out and cut down my intake too. I feel so discourage and afraid. Here's a side by side of my process post-232936-14739812075341_thumb.jpg

You look beautiful! If you reduced intake and increased activity you may have stopped the loss by putting your body in starvation mode and screwing up your metabolism! You may need to increase calories by eating Protein, veggies, fruit and healthy fats! Be proud you've lost 180+ lbs - that's incredible!

You may consider re-visiting your Nutritionist and surgeon. They may give you insight. Also, if the stall is that long, an exercise physiologist.

How much we consume and how much we expend via physical activity need to be balanced.

You can't starve it off yourself. Your body needs fuel- or it will shut down the metabolism to protect itself. Many a person has gone from overweight to obese by thinking starvation is key.

Get intervention before it's out of control.

Good luck, and you've got this! Your progress is nothing to be ashamed of!!!

I don't know if you've seen Friends but you and me are Hand Twins! Seriously. Our hands look EXACTLY the same. XD

On a serious note, you're doing so well and you'll get where you want to be. When I'm stalled or struggling, I try to remember what it felt like to be over 400 pounds and how different and amazing I feel now. It can be hard for us to look at the big picture while we struggle day by day to move forward. Sometimes during those day to day struggles we can completely forget just how far we've come and the huge successes we have already had. Hang in there! You WILL get there! :)

You have no idea just how beautiful you are, and I mean that. All of us know how hard this journey can be, and it's very easy to get caught up in the scale numbers game. Try and take a step back and really see how much you've already accomplished.

You've already lost nearly 200 pounds! That's incredible! Think about how much better you feel. How easier it is to walk and breathe, and simply do things daily. You are amazing and have achieved what many others never do. Please don't give up on yourself.

Put away that scale for awhile and just remind yourself of just how wonderful and amazing you truly are!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
