Ditto what @@krissyfattofab said. I also had orientation last week and they expect you to change you diet immediately. It's been interesting transitioning to Protein first and not drinking with meals. So far I have survived. It's definitely tough on days I work out as I do an intense workout and get hungry after class. How is everything going with you @@krissyfattofab?

@@necarv it's going. Trying to find ways to keep food interesting and not have to cook separate stuff for the kids. Thankfully my hubby and I are going through this process together so we can encourage each other. I have some friends who went through the Richmond process this year and had their surgery and told me they used the pre-op diet as a guide, modified it to fit their lifestyle and both lost a lot of weight pre surgery and pretty fast. I've been doing intermittent fasting to help. So I try to eat between 11 & 7 and that helps. I haven't given up my coffee yet.

On the bright side I've already lost 6 pounds.

What kind of workouts do you do?

@@krissyfattofab That's awesome!! Congrats! I think I'm only down about 2 pounds from last Friday. I forgot to weigh on Thur before the class. I do Orangetheory Fitness. It's a HIIT workout so super intense. I walk out with legs shaking and dripping in sweat. It's good to hear that people modified the diet and still lost weight. I worry about not eating enough when I'm doing a workout that burns 500+ calories. You are lucky to have a support person doing this with you! My friends have offered support, but they aren't doing the diet with me. I've been cooking a lot more since eating out really isn't an option.

@@necarv yeah now that he is on board it's much easier. I lost a ton of weight last year and gained it all all back. Slipped back into old habits with him. I actually think if he has his surgery first I will continue to lose weight without it.

You can do it. Keep your eye on the prize. Now you are just burning 1/7th of a pound each workout alone. I've been journaling which is helping. I write down when I think I'm hungry instead of grabbing something to eat. It's helping for now.

I've never heard of Orangetheory - where's that at?

@@krissyfattofab That's a great idea. I've been tracking my meals but haven't journaled. Orangetheory is a HIIT workout. Half the class is cardio (treadmill, there is also a bike and elliptical for people who can't use the treadmill) and the other half is strength (rowing machine and weights). The goal is to get your heart rate in the "orange" zone. Then you burn calories 24-36 hours after the workout. It's super intense, but I love it. They have studios in Alameda, SF, Dublin, Walnut Creek, Marin They are opening ones in Berkeley, Emeryville, and Concord that I know of. There are probably more! It's all the rage right now. I have a bunch of friends who are members in FL, IL, and here in CA. :) First class is free too so you can try it out!

Has anyone on here had a hard time getting approved by your insurance? I looked up my coverages and it says that Bariatric surgery is covered under my plan but I've read so many horror stories of people going through this whole process only to get denied by insurance. I meet the BMI requirements for having no co morbidities.

Having all this time before my orientation class is allowing me to do a lot of research but some of the things I'm finding are making me doubt that I'll get approved.

@@bubbz333 if you get called by the Bariatric department once your pcp sent the referral I wouldn't stress .If your BMI is 40 you don't need any co morbidities .You qualify on that alone .

Thank you @@shaylady08 I think I'm just over thinking things. That's the problem with having too much time to research lol

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
