Seminar done, now wait for an appointment for surgeon consult

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bariatric pal users,

My name is Jen, and I fairly recently decided to go on this journey again. I went through the process a few years back and chickened out. So here I am again AND ready for this to happen. I chickened out of the first time because I thought my step mom's problems had been from her bariatric surgery. Come to find out, it wasn't. So here i am.

I live in the Inland Empire, and I am going through my insurance which is United Healthcare. My surgeon will be either Dr. Krahn or Dr. Chin from Western Bariatric.

I had my informational seminar last night which is required, so now i await my consult. Just wanted to say hello to everyone, and maybe ask a couple questions.

I have already decided to go with roux en y for my surgery.

Questions:

1. Whats one or more things you wish someone had told you on this journey of weight loss?

2. whats been the most difficult thing for you?

3. How do you stay motivated after the first year?

4. Do you take Vitamins, and what do you take?

Thanks so much all, i hope you all are having a wonderful day or night. :)

I still have one month of required weight management left but all my clearances are finished. I have the "nutritional evaluation" this week, so I hope I hear something about getting a date! Are you having your surgery in St Bernadine or Parkview?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
