Depression and Anxiety

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 13 months post op and finally realizing I've been self sabotaging myself. I guess I've always been a binge eater but didn't recognize it as that when I was fat. I just thought I ate a lot. I finally seen a therapist last week and she diagnosed me with mild anxiety and depression. I got a prescription for Wellbutrin and started it yesterday. Anyone struggle with the same issues? Open for advice or just a friend going through the same thing!

@@britt_lewis2011 I think many of us have similar problems. I'm on Wellbuterin pre-op. My issue isn't necessarily binge eating but more boredom eating / emotional eating. I went to a therapist for 6 sessions pre-op to deal with that and found them to really help. Continue with the therapist! Stay strong!

Even people with anxiety and depression can lose weight and keep it off.

Wellbutrin may work well for you; it remains to be seen. If not, don't let it discourage you. It's common to have to try a few or more meds to find the right one or the right combination.

I probably had anxiety/depression most of my life, but when I lost my 30 year old son in 2006 it escalated. I went on to having the sleeve 7 years later, I am at peace until the month of Novmber, and I deal with the pain. There is not a soul among us who has not experienced pain or depression at some level. God's Grace and live on, don't look back.

Yes. I'm one year 4 months post op , and my PCP put me on prozac about 3 weeks ago for depression and anxiety. I've struggled with both for years but never taken anything for it. It does seem like it's helping.

I was prescribed Wellbutrin to help quit smoking for surgery. I was one of the lucky ones who LOVED being on it (minus the adjustment in the first week or so.) I ate way less, had no desire to smoke, and as a bonus I didn't dwell on things or have horrible days at work. I felt like I no longer spiraled when things happened and I didn't unnecessarily worry about things.

Unfortunately, after a month I broke out in hives for an entire week and had to stop taking it. I'm semi devastated, but it really made me wonder if I should have been taking something a long time ago. I didn't even realize how amazing I really felt in it until I had to stop.

I truly hope this works for you too and you start to notice it making a difference in your thoughts. Good luck!!!

And feel free to reach out Britt! I am a total over eater- it's my Achilles heel. The Wellbutrin really did help- not 100% but the eating was not as mindless and intense. It's hard to explain.

I too struggle with binge eating along with Depression and anxiety.....I have for years but seemed to be worse lately. It's a vicious cycle, binge eat regret....beat yourself up....more depressed, so you eat even more

I started suffering from panic attacks years ago. The only drug that helps me is Klonopin (Rivotril) as it works well for me and I don't get side-effects.

Depression runs in my family, so I have been struggling with it on and off for decades. I am currently on Effexor, after a long break from it. It is helping me, and as Wellbutrin, it does not increase appetite.

I find that ongoing major stress often ends in depression for me. It is like my body and brain need a rest from upsetting events that go on for a long time.

@@britt_lewis2011

In the past my hyper-thyroid disease made my metabolism very high and quick, so any binges I had, I didn't pay the price for them.

In the past 2 years, my thyroid disease did a 180 degree turn, and I developed diabolical cravings for sweet and fatty foods. So I put on 90Ibs from 2014-2016.

After being sleeved in early March 2016, chocolate made me ill, but I can eat ice-cream .... and melted cheese.

At least now it does not happen often.

And I mainly ate more at some nights, when my thyroid disease kept me up awake till 5-6 am, and I was hungry, as dinner was long time ago then.

Good luck to you, I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for all the replies! It helps knowing that I'm not the only one out there. This can be a hard subject to talk to people about. Or it is for me anyway. I'm very sensitive and cry at the drop of a hat. I'm hoping meds and therapy will help with that as well. Good luck to you all too!! One day at a time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
