Weight Loss 3 weeks out

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I had RNY on August 23rd and have only lost around 8 to 10 pounds. I hear all these stories of people losing quickly but it's not happening for me. Can anyone offer advice or have similar experience?

I am sure you had some Fluid from surgery to lose first. I've also heard the heavier you are, the faster you lose weight. I've lost about 10 in addition to the 10 I had to lose of iv fluids. I am worried about the same thing though, especially bc I don't have any full sensation at all.

It would be helpful to know your Water and Protein intake as well. As someone said, you actually gain weight in the hospital so you usually have to lose that first and then the rest starts to happen.

How are you doing on Water and Protein? Understanding that will help.

Water and protein are critical to weight loss but I suspect you simply had to lose all the fluids from surgery which is normal. It takes a week or so just for that to catch up and the rest should happen if you are on the plan.

Best of luck to you!

Yep that's me sleeved 8/8 been stuck for 3 weeks now. I'm working out ,eating right, drinking my portein, and taking my supplements. It's hard wondering why it's not coming off but we all have our own journey and our bodies are different take 1 day at a time.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls and just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery.

Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Stay off the scale. And, Embrace the Stall

Unfortunately there are no mile markers along the route of this race. Your body makes the final decisions on how fast or slow the weight will come off. Just keep following your surgeon's instructions and you will get there eventually.

And for what it's worth - for every post out there from people who lose the weight quickly, there are probably an equal amount who lose slowly. The ones who lose slowly though might not post as much. But I guarantee that they're out there. I had my surgery at the exact same time as three of my classmates during my approval process. We were all on the same floor and even had the same surgeon. And guess what - all of us didn't lose the same amount of weight at the same time.

You're going to have stalls and maybe even some gains as you go along, and it's all very common. Hang in there and best of luck!

I am post op 8/19 surgery date I gained 23 pound after surgery from having 2 Ivs running in me. It took me 2 weeks exactly to lose that Water weight. I have now lost 18 pounds since then. I had seen people losing 14 pounds their first week. So I just assume it varies for everyone. I had to be readmitted for a twist in my intestine and then seen the doctor every week for seromas (Fluid under the skin) in several of my incisions and she says Im doing fine.. so dont base you on anyone else.. we will all vary.. you are losing so Congrats!!

I had the same problem and asked my surgeon if I should be worried and his exact words were if I'm not worried you don't worry. He said at 3 wks out our body is still healing and trying to figure things out.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
