Pre Op Nutrition Class - What to expect

Recommended Posts

What sort of things did you go over? Is it usually a one on one or group class?

Is there anything you wish you'd asked that you didn't?

Thanks!

My class briefly touched on the specifics of the surgery types & also the importance of exercise.

Most of it went into detail with nutrition and the reasons why we need to hit Protein goals, take our Vitamins (specifically the type of vitamins) & especially liquid intake. We also went into detail about the two week pre-op clear liquid diet. My center is very strict about this and made sure we were crystal clear on what we can and can't have during this stage.

I was shocked at some of the questions people asked I would say expect people to ask anything!! lol

....I forgot to add there were probably over 50 people in my class. It was intense but informative!

My classes were one on one. I did them for 6 months I couldn't miss one month or I had to stay over anthem insurance.

We went over my current diet, the preop liquid diet (she suggested I test out differently liquids ahead of time as I get nauseas a lot and I wanted to make sure liquids didn't make me sick during the diet ).

She also talked to me about staying hydrated and Vitamins and supplements. Good luck!

There were about 20 people in my class. The NUT was there discussing all things diet before and after plus the importance of taking your Vitamins and when to start. The surgical nurse was there to answer questions about the surgery, e.g., what to expect at the hospital from beginning to end. The physical therapist discussed exercise after the surgery. The class was 2 1/2 hours long. I'm always amazed at how much people don't pay attention and so ask the same questions over and over. All in all it was a good meeting.

I had one on one for four visits over three months. She was excellent helping me to understand the eating expectations with the sleeve. We set 3 to 5 goals per meeting. I did not lose much, but I feel I have a good idea of what to eat in order to maintain weight loss into the future.

I just went to mine. There were about 15 people. The NUT showed us a 30 minute video from surgeons, nutritionist, nurse and pharmacist. Then the NUT went over how to make sure you get your Protein in. The steps of your diet after surgery. She was with us for about 1 1/2 hours, then a nurse came in and discussed what to expect once you get to the hospital till you leave and about your post op visits. Total time was 3 and 1/2 hours. Very educational.

I was surprised about some of the questions people asked, but to each their own. One good thing got quite a few freebies to try, Protein shakes, Vitamins.

I really paid attention, I have waited for this and want to do it right.

Good luck!

We had a 2.5 hour class with about 10 people. The NUT talked about both the pre-op and post op diets and gave us materials for our notebooks and we discussed ideas for the different phases. That was about 2/3 of the class. Then a nurse educator who works on the floor where we would all be after surgery about what to expect day of and day after surgery, how to handle issues with medications we are taking, what post-op meds would be like, etc. We were encouraged to bring a support person because it was alot of info to assimilate. Ours was done about 2 weeks prior to surgery.

There were only 5 or so people in my class. We discussed a little bit of the pre-op diet, then discussed in depth the post-op diet and each stage. Lots of good information and tips. Lasted about an hour and a half. Even got an infusion bottle out of the deal ;)

Just had mine today. It was only 4 of us and lasted about 1.5 hours. Nobody really talked much and we just watched some power point presentations. It was really educational though and Im glad I went!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
