My surgery was 07/05/2016 and after that date I have been having a burning sensation in my throat. I did some research and found that, it is GERD and after awhile of having it, it could turn into CANCER. So, I contacted my surgeons office right away. They said that they will have the doctor to call me back. My question to you is, Is this true? and what information can you give me on this subject. I thought it was something minor and would later go away on its own. Can you enlighten me on any information that you can add?

burning sensation in throat

@@PRINCESS2218

doc sent me home with script for prilosec

does the trick keeping gerd away for ME

is your gerd/heartburn frequent?

a PPI will hopefully help/calm down the situation

the sleeve is "technically" one of the newer WLS

yearsssss back it was used to help stomach cancer

doctors were realizing that people would lose weight PO

eventually it was then made/used as a procedure for weight loss :)

i never heard that heartburn/gerd could be a cause of cancer

doc is the man in the know!!!

hope your doc is good about returning phone calls, and can

put your mind at ease

good luck

kathy

Yes, I have heard (from gastroenterologist) that prolonged GERD can lead to cancer. But it is easy to treat- and very unlikely to cause cancer in a few weeks or months. That is usually years of untreated GERD that could cause it.

You would have to have the Gerd for a long while before it caused cancer. And the cancer your talking about is Garrett's disease or cancer. It's usually found in the esophagus. It's caused by erosion from the stomach acid. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Make sure your taking Omeprazole or something similar. Your doctor will prescribe it most likely.

Long term, untreated GERD can lead to Barrett's Esophagitis. Easy fix with meds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
