jatmagg 7 Posted September 13, 2016 Hi All. Starting soft solids today. I scrambled an egg and am just nibbling on it. My question is, how do I know what 'feeling full' feels like if I wasn't 'hungry' at the start of the meal? Any sensations you can describe for me? Just was to learn what I am looking for. TIA
trekker954 421 Posted September 13, 2016 I had asked this same question a couple of weeks back, too bad threads disappear so quickly here. I have yet to slime or vomit, so definitely keep nibbling at first. I did that. For me, going slow, I just had that feeling that said, if you take one more bite you are going to hurl, so I didn't. I've been eating soft foods for three weeks now and feel I should get more Protein in during one sitting, so I try and take a 10 minute break half way thru what I am trying to eat. Its just a feeling in your chest that you've had enough. I can only eat one egg with some cheese. My NUT limits me to one egg a day. I've only the past couple of days been able to eat about 2 ounces of shredded chicken. Just be very careful your first week to avoid sliming and vomiting. gina171 626 Posted September 13, 2016 If I eat slowly, at about the 20 min in mark I usually just have the thought pop into my head, "I don't think I need any more." That NEVER happened to me before, ever!! I also often get a small hiccup, just one, that I now know means my little pouch of a stomach is done. LisaMergs 2,854 Posted September 13, 2016 I'd suggest that you stop one bite before feeling like you can't have another bite... Or you may be looking at everything you ate a second time- or in pain, which is worse. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted September 13, 2016 @@jatmagg The goal isn't t be full. Once you accidently get full on solids, the discomfort will probably make it so you don't want to try again. Weigh/measure your food and have the recommended amount for your stage. When I was at that stage 2 ounces was suggested for me. Take a bite, wait 90 seconds take another bite. Eat your portion not more.

Sai 785 Posted September 13, 2016 What is sliming? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I got that all the time with my band, not yet with my sleeve... But when I slimed, first the food would get somewhat stuck in my throat, and then my body would produce tons of clear mucus to try to push it out. It was gross... Is this the way it is for sleevers too? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
Candygyrl 637 Posted September 13, 2016 Sliming is an uncomfortable reaction to your sleeve getting full or eating too fast. One bite too many you may feel like the food is "stuck" in your chest or like something is in your throat. Accompanied by excessive saliva and mucous production and you may feel the need or want to vomit. This may last for about 15-30 min until the food has had more time to digest into the small intestine. Moral of this story. We don't want to get full. Please measure your food and take the entire 30 minutes to eat it. This is why they tell you to take small bites, and chew thoroughly before swallowing. Put the fork down, do something to distract yourself read a book, magazine, health article, play a game whatever and then repeat. Sometimes we get little signals like hiccups, or burping to let us know it's time to tap out but everyone is different. We don't get full in the traditional sense and we don't want to fill our sleeve to capacity.
Rachel Pittsburgh 29 Posted September 13, 2016 Hi everyone! It's been a few months since I posted anything here. I took a few minutes to check the site to see if I could help anyone and I read this chain... It's been 8 months for me and I started at 214 and now weigh 153. I'm right on target and am feeling great. About eating in the beginning...please follow the plan, take your time, look for signs that your body will tell you. I too would get that 1 hiccup... it was my bodys alarm saying rut roh....you are done!!! I just wanted to tell you all that you are all doing great. It's funny how before i had the surgery, I would just continue to eat NOW I listen to my body and it will tell you when to stop AND if you don't... you will get very very uncomfortable and you won't want to feel that way again!!! BELIEVE ME!!! Enjoy your food, eat your Protein first, drink your fluids, take your Vitamins. You too will look back and think OMG how did i survive on 1/4 cup of food. Stay strong, take lots of pictures. I take a monthly photo on my anniversary date and you can really see yourself shreaking right before your eyes!!!
Leather'nLace 187 Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) I'm 21 days post op and one of my first few days on soft food, I ate one or two bites too much and boy did I pay the price. I spent 2 hours lying down and in horrible pain. It was awful, but now I'm kind of glad it happened. It really showed me my limits and what could happen if I exceed those limits. Good lesson learned. Sai 785 Posted September 13, 2016 Is foamies like sliming but you make foam as well? That's my guess and it sounds miserable... Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
gustavio 439 Posted September 13, 2016 Oh boy, that doesn't sound the least bit fun. Hope I never get that feeling. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Candygyrl 637 Posted September 14, 2016 Some people call it sliming, slimies, or foaming most interchangeably.
