renewyou 9 Posted September 12, 2016 It's my breath!! When will the bad breath stop? It's been a month since surgery. Is there anything else I can do? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
4MRB4PHOTO 3,900 Posted September 12, 2016 Could it be ketosis?
catwoman7 11,220 Posted September 12, 2016 that's what I was going to say - ketosis.
kjones1 14 Posted September 12, 2016 It's ketosis. Since we are not eating much at all after surgery, it sends our bodies into a state of ketosis. I hear the bad breath will cease once we start eating a more balanced diet. In the meantime (also helps with the nausea!), I've been sucking on sugar free spearmints. It helps a bit. Good luck!! renewyou 9 Posted September 12, 2016 I'm sure it is Ketosis. I was under the impression that I'd be low carbing until I reach goal. Hopefully I still have friends and the love of my husband by then if that's the case. I've used mints, increased mouthwash and brushing. catwoman7 11,220 Posted September 12, 2016 it depends on your plan. Some surgeons recommend ultra-low carb plans, others don't. And some people "low carb" even if their plan doesn't require it because they find it easier to lose weight when they "low carb".
tenseintexas 182 Posted September 12, 2016 Mine went away this week ( four weeks after surgery) but I have also been eating a lot more variety this week . The good thing about it , I found , was it made me drink Water all the time - I was always trying to get the taste out ) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
highfunctioningfatman 2,675 Posted September 12, 2016 Brush your teeth with listerine after you do your regular brushing.
OKCPirate 5,323 Posted September 13, 2016 The brushing doesn't help. You are just exhaling fat. Best bet is gum or mints. http://www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/where-does-your-fat-go-when-you-lose-weight/
agirlhasnofluff 57 Posted October 31, 2016 I'm one week post op today. Last night, I went to take a drink of Water, but I exhaled in the glass before I sipped. I was like, "what is wrong with my Water? Why does it smell so bad?" I sniffed it again, but then I realized it was my breath. Holy hell. I was shocked. Glad to know there's relief for it on the horizon! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App
