Hello from New Brunswick

Recommended Posts

hi there,

I've been lurking around here for a while and have finally decided to say hello :) Everyone seems so friendly on here!

I've also decided to go ahead with Lap Banding, kind of scared but excited too. Now comes trying to decide where to have it done.

Argo, if you read this, and I know you are in NB, where did you have it done? Is there anyone else out there from NB with some advice? I'm leaning towards having it done in Ontario to be on the safe side, but I know there are other options as I am close to the Maine border. Any advice would be helpful. Would love to connect with other locals.

~T

If you are close to the Maine border and its a DRIVEABLE distance to go for fills and follow up ... I'd go there...

Its not just about the consultaaiotn and surgery, you'll need to go back for FILLS at least 3 times possible 5 and for 6 mos. and yearly checkups.

I am in Ontario so went to Toronto for mine but I only have to drive 3 hrs to get to the clinic... so its just a day out of my schedule each visit.

I have just had my first fill and it was a breeze.. I wish you all the best of luck. I have had a very uneventful journey so far. and the weight loss has been successful.. I still have quite a way to go.. but at least I KNOW that it will come off and stay off permanently now..

It is wonderful to live with hope!

There are two excellent clinics in Toronto

TBLC (Dr. Patrick Yau) where I went

Dr. MUMFORD & Dr. Colbourn in MISSISSAUGA I think its called the Obesity Clinic, but not sure...

These surgeons are very well thought of on the boards...

Read lots, do research

Tracith,

I was banded in ON by Dr. Cobourn. I would go to ON too, over Maine. Dr. Cobourn specifically, has a lady in Pictou, NS doing fills, who is FABULOUS, and another in Fredericton, which I haven't gone to see yet. Honestly, Freddie's only about half an hour closer to me than Pictou, so I'd probably opt to go see lady #1 for my fills.

(If I were you) I'd probably go back to TO for my first initial fill, at about 6 weeks, but after that, going to see the closer-by fill people would be easier.

I was living in SK when I had my first fill, and Dr. Cobourn happened to be going to Calgary at that time, so I drove there to see him. I had to fly to TO for a day trip fill once, and it wasn't bad.

Feel free to PM me if you want to ask me anything else! (or right here is fine too!)

I would stay in Canada and go to Dr. Colbourn mainly because of the fills. The TLBC is a great clinic and Dr. Yau is the leading surgeon, but they don't have much in the way of "fill" support outside the province of Ont. I pen pal with someone in Nova Scotia who was banded by TLBC and can't find a fill nurse and is hoping her doctor will do it. Not all medical doctors will do a fill even though the TLBC does have a DVD for the doctor to learn how to do it. Doctors/nurses that specialize in doing fills usually support only one clinic and as someone has posted two fill doctors in your area that support Dr. Colboun, I would go to him. I live in BC and after much effort found a doctor that would do my fills.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
