Torriluv87 300 Posted September 14, 2016 I dont know where my head has been this summer but it definitely hasnt been where its supposed to be. I have been getting refills of Vitamins because my Iron is on the lower side i think. Last time i checked it was 11 i think. I have had iron pills and everything and havent been taking them. Dont ask me why, my mind has been everywhere and nowhere at all. Now I have 3 weeks till my surgery Oct 5. And Im freaking out that my levels arent good. My sister just told me yesterday to take a bunch of iron a day to get my levels up so i wouldnt have a problem during surgery. She was saying 5 pills a day. Thats what my neice had to do once before a surgery. But i dunno. Anyone else in the same boat?
KristenLe 5,979 Posted September 15, 2016 @torruluv87 Please be careful - you can have problems taking too much Iron supplements a day.
jaysnewwife16 0 Posted September 16, 2016 My surgery was postponed 3 times due to Iron deficiency. I had to go to a specialist and receive IV Iron infusion before I was actually able to have the surgery. I'm glad to hear that you finally got your surgery though! I was very worried that would happen to me until I saw my NUT yesterday. She said that they won't postpone it if I'm iron deficient. I said are you sure? She said she's positive. So I feel better about it now. Still kind of nervous though! wheels121604 16 Posted September 16, 2016 I think it's really how your doctor feels about low Iron. I am sure some doctors would still do it. Mine wouldn't because he said it can cause excessive bleeding. If you're worried about it, I would talk to your doctor. I hope you have an easier time than me! I would not go by what your NUT said. Speak to the surgeon. Mine was clear that bleeding can be an issue with low iron and bleeding can cause additional complications (heart attack) so they are very careful about this. Hope all goes well.
