Labband removed

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyonel

I went to the hospital for a slipped band, however, the doctor could not save it. He removed my band. I am so upset right now and feel like I lost my best friend.

My surgery was on Tuesday so I am very sore and resting;

My next queston is - do I have a new one put in and go through all this again or do I just not take the risk.:help:

Of course, that's a decision for both you and your doc to make, but...I would definitely get my band put back in. I've already gone through this scenario in my own head.

Check out the Removal forum and see what others who have gone through this experience say.

I wish you the best!!!

I am having my surgery on Sept 10 and I was told by the Dr. and his staff about the new lap band, if it should slip it will not have to be removed becasue there is another buckle that can be released and then the band can be re positioned the band just came out in June of this year.

Sharon2U, not wanting to contradict what your doctor said, but while it is true that the AP lapband can be repositioned, if your slip is bad enough to cause an erosion, or other complication in there, it will still have to come out for a while to let your stomach rest and heal. Granted those serious slips are happening far less often than previously. But I have to wonder with the fastwer we are allowed to eat post-op if we won't start seeing more slips in the future again. Dunno, and I'm just talking off the top of my head...

If the OP did not have an AP band, then just unbuckling it and repositioning it wasn't an option.

Momto1, sorry to hear about your removal. Good luck with your decision.

I have learned so much on this site and continue to learn. That's very interesting about a new band that might not need to be removed for slip, thanks for the info.

I am planning on having my lapband removed, what did you do?

If the OP did not have an AP band, then just unbuckling it and repositioning it wasn't an option.

Why not?

There is a lock on the other bands and many US surgeons are under the impression it cannot be unlocked, it must be cut off. That is not true. I've seen the procedure with my own eyes, the lock is unlocked, the band is repositioned, and relocked. The newer bands just make it easier to do but it can (and is) done routinely in Mexico.

I have a hunch Inamed created this lock so that if someone needed their band to be repositioned the patient would have to pay for an entirely new band. Well, it did not work out that way. The lock can indeed be opened and relocked.

Hi Everyone,

I just want to let you know that I am having the Rouen Y gastric bypass surgery done on January 10th. I am not going to risk the lapband again. The fills never worked for me. I never found my sweet spot. Best of luck to all of you and have a very happy holiday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
