Stress eating

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Well let's just say that for me the last few weeks have been a nightmare. My uni is stuffing me around in regards to enrollment and marks (still working on that one), my marriage was really rocky there for a while (I wonder if this has to do with the band?) but we went to counselling for that one which helped. I had a huge falling out with someone and from that have lost a group of what I thought was close friends (but am kind of over that one) and this time last Thursday my beautiful Molly dog drowned and died. sad.gif

As I'm a mood eater how do you not binge? Now I've had a fill today so that should make some difference. But I have been bad and have been eating icecream. I know I know so naughty. How do I deal with these demons taunting me like this. (ok I am aware that it is my hand putting the food in my mouth but you know what I mean).

I'm sorry am just really blabbing here. I'm sure that some if not all of you know what I'm talking about as obviously this is why a lot of us got to this point.

Anyway thanks for letting me get this out and thanks for reading.:D

Nicky,

First of all, don't beat yourself up!! We ALL have had times like this and you just do your best and move on. I am a BIG animal lover and was very sad to hear about Molly. When I have lost dogs in the past it took me a long time to recover. food was the last thing I thought of for awhile, then I started eating everything in sight. I eventually was able to substitute things for it, like long walks or reading or renting a movie. Maybe you could try something like that. As for your husband and friends, I hope things get better with time. Do you have access to counseling just by yourself? Maybe talking through everything with a third party would help. There are also lots of "self-help" books out there that deal with pretty much every emotion you can think of!

Do your best and know that you WILL recover and feel better. You've come this far and will surely be heading in the right direction again soon!!

I second Larry's words.

I am so sad to hear about your dog. And all the other troubles you have been having.

I don't think a little ice cream is going to hurt you. And do not beat yourself up over it because maybe you needed an old friend (comfort food) when things were stressful for you. Just think of it as a hug during a time of need. BUT just remember to get yourself back on track and you will do great.

I myself have taken nothing off my food list. I am able to eat anything I want BUT the difference for me now is that because I can have anything I do not crave it as I have before when I have been on diets. I also can just have a taste and I am done.

Please keep up posted on how you are doing. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
