What are the first foods to try in week 4

Recommended Posts

If everything goes as planned I'm having surgery October 3rd and have a mandatory work conference November 1-3. The conference is in the 5th week post-op so hopefully I'll know what I can and can't handle. I will tell the conference team/hotel staff about needing softer foods, but what were some friendly and some not-so-friendly foods you tried during weeks 4-5? Might help me tell the hotel what I can and cannot have while I'm there. More than likely I will take my own food too, just in case.

I would honestly prepare to be mostly drinking Protein Shakes at that point. I was allowed to eat at 3 weeks post op (soft foods) but for the first two months shakes felt the best in my new stomach. I really liked eggs (scrambled or deviled), canned chicken with light mayo, yogurt with flavorless Protein.

Is your week 4 purees or soft foods? Every plan is different, I was on full food by the end of week 4.

Good soft foods: refried Beans with cheese, ricotta with sauce, cottage cheese with pureed fruit, soft scrambled eggs (for most people, not for me), yogurt, softer cheeses. I mixed unflavored Protein into most everything I ate.

Like @@amandastearns said, shakes are a good option still at that point, especially if the food choices are complicated and you don't have a lot of time to spend worrying about food.

You have gotten great suggestions and I will just add that you won't be able to eat more than a few bites of whatever soft foods you try. When I ate out during that stage, I had the chicken from the inside of an enchilada, scrambled egg, Soup, and a meatball. Different meals and it looked like I hadn't even eaten!

I haven't heard what my Drs plan will be exactly. I think they were waiting to get insurance approval before they worried about all of the details. I just know I don't have the 4 weeks of pre-op liquids they talked about cuz I'm down 40# since my seminar in February :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
