Considering surgery

Recommended Posts

@@Rycaitsmom At 60 BMI you won't have to provide proof of failed attempts. Are you sure your insurance in MO covers surgery? Most plans don't.

At Wash U, you are going to have to wait 6 months or more for surgery and go through their program (which is world-renowned). If you want surgery faster, there are other programs that are faster.

Good luck

What other programs? Others I work with have had theirs covered through our insurance (I work at a hospital). I was just reading what WashU's program said about insurance.

If your co-workers had surgery covered through insurance then you should be good.

Wash U has an extensive weight loss program, that involves a lot of behavioral changes. I think if you are serious about being healthy for life, they are a good way to go, even with the longer wait. If I had the time last year I would have probably went with them, but I work with a different University for my follow up care.

Des Peres has a program which is who I went with. Some of the doctors have left (one went to teach at a University), and I am not sure what the exact status of their program is now.

Thanks everyone! I wonder if Weight Watchers has record of all the times I joined them? I will also look into Dr's records. Hopefully the surgeon's staff will help me out as well.

I think WW can give you that info. It may take,a little time though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
