What are the kitchen must haves?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for my sleeve 9/15/16 and I will be caring for myself once I am discharged from the hospital, so I want to be (overly) prepared. I've ordered a food steamer thinking that it'll be an easy way to prepare moist fish and chicken . I was curious if any one on the forum has any suggestions about kitchen must haves....thanks all!!!

My absolutes are a food scale, an immersion blender, assortment of measuring spoons and cups, a Blender Bottle and my favorite item is the Zojirushi 16 ounce stainless steel mug to have ice Water or hot tea for home and travel. I use it as a fruit infuser too which makes the Water so tasty.

Small dishes and bowls. You can grab them from the dollar store. The kind you used to use for Condiments and ramekins . The ones I have are exactly perfect for a 1/2c portion.

A scale and one that you can zero out amounts. I use my scale for almost everything and it saves on dishes with using measuring spoons. I do all of my measurements in weights, it is the most accurate and in the long term the easiest.

Never used a blender since surgery for anything. It makes everything too thick for me.

9 weeks out here. I have a digital food scale that gets used whenever I eat or prepare food at home. The Blender Bottle was a godsend for when I was traveling in the earlier stages. I already had a vitamix blender and I do use it for the occasional Protein Drink or smoothie but easily could have relied on pre made shakes as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
