Dr. Alvarez Reviews

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am looking into having the Gastric Sleeve done by Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. I have found such great reviews and information on him in my research. My BMI is not high enough for my insurance to cover it so I will be paying cash. His pricing is affordable but not so low it makes me worry about what I am getting.

Anyone with any information would be much appreciated!

I'm not sure about Dr. Alvarez , but I was just sleeved on Sept 2nd in Tiajuna I saw Dr alejandro lopez , everything was smooth sailing from the initial call with a consultant to booking the surgery the day I WANTED!!

I paid $4700 which included a Marriott stay for my family of 3 for 3 nights. I only stayed there them the Thursday night before my surgery. The hotel was even very nice and I was treated very well. I was given complimentary broth and popsicles:)

At the end i ended up having to pay an $350 because I had a hiatal hernia repair that the dr found when he went in, i was aware that may happen so i was prepared, but other than that the facility was nice the people were great and no issues with the nurses not speaking English.

Not sure how much Dr. Alvarez is, I even found that was cheaper doctors out there, but I had a friend who went there a few years prior and absolutely loved Dr. Lopez. I made a good choice.....Good Luck!!

I had my vsg with Dr. Guillermo Alverez at Endobariatric in Mexico in April. I can't remember what my BMI was when I first reached out to them, but it was low. I mention that because between the time I started researching and actually having the surgery I had some other health issues and gained more weight. I think it was 34/35.

Susan is wonderful if you have questions.

I only told my mom about my plans and she was against it at first. Every bit of information I could find, I shared with her. She is the only person I've told. She traveled with me to get vsg as well.

I had a few fears prior to surgery but I was confident that if I was going to have vsg, Dr. Alverez was going to perform it.

I had a textbook/great experience. I woke up with a little nausea after surgery and that lasted for an hour. After that, I didn't really have any pain. I was up and walking a couple of hours after surgery.

I was out walking around the hospital and to the shopping center the next morning to find my mom something to eat.

I stayed an extra day in San Antonio and went down to the Riverwalk and walked too much, may have over did it. The staff at the hotel kept asking when I was headed to have surgery and when I told them I already had it, they were shocked.

I could go on and on but if you have specific questions, let me know.

I have no regrets. Even now when I think I'm not losing as fast as others, Susan and Dr. A are still available to answer my questions and concerns.

Good luck with your journey.

I know this is an older post but I am waiting to hear back from Susan. Do they offer any financing? I don't have the 8900 readily available.

No, they don't do financing, at least not when I went last year. I did a loan with Lightstream to finance my surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
