Pain After Taking Laxative

Recommended Posts

Like most Bariatric patients, I sometimes require help for BM. Couple of times I noticed acute pain in my abdomen after taking laxative. Once I even ended up in ER. Does anyone else have similar reaction to laxatives? What am I doing wrong?

It's not unusual to have discomfort after taking a laxative. Most people experience it.

You are taking a chemical to "insist" your body move waist through and out. Your body is protesting being told what to do. It seemed to be very happy just loafing around and not getting down to business. Anytime we try to "force" mother nature she pouts, moans and groans. :)

However, if your pain gets serious and intolerable, please notify your bariatric team----just to rule out a blockage or impaction.

Gas pains and sluggish bowels are the bad boys that plague most of us immediately following WLS.

Feel better. Take care of yourself. Remember: if your pain increases, CALL YOUR TEAM. They will know just what you need to do.

Please, post back and let us know how you're doing====much better, I hope. :)

Start keeping fresh ginger root around for Ginger tea. It helps with Constipation and not so aggressive as over the counter

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
