Just had my surgery on Wednesday and just this afternoon, Water now tastes sugary!!! It could be worse. It could taste salty, but its weird that my taste buds really have changed.

When I was in the hospital after surgery, Water tasted like chlorine. It was totally undrinkable. Thank goodness for ice chips that did not have the same taste.

Oh, wow! yeah, see, it can be SO much worse. Does the Water you drink at home taste any better?

But I think they do put chlorine in the Water at hospitals to get your hands cleaner. Clean hands of nurses and doctors are important. But you'd think they'd give you bottled water there and not from the tap.

I still have this problem today. If I drink Water from the tap or even filtered Water it tastes dusty to me. I have to buy spring water and drink it at room temp.

I cannot tolerate any artificial sweeteners because I am alergic so occasionally I will use lemon, lime or other fruits in non spring water.

Recently I started using essential oils in my water and I love it! Grapefruit, tangerine, lime, and even peppermint. It just takes a drop or two and you get the value of the oil plus it flavors your water a bit.

I am having surgery on September 28! I can't wait. Everyone's advice is so helpful. I can't do artificial sweeteners either, and am glad to know there are others out there that are making it work! I'll have to try my DoTerra oils in my Water, too!

Congrats on your surgery date! I'm 10 days out from mine. If I could go through it all over again, I wouldn't have been as nervous as I was and would have been more excited. There really was nothing to worry about.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
