My kids' piano teacher saw me for the first time in a couple of months and said, "My God! You're melting!"

I walked past the desk of a receptionist. I had not seen her in six months. I don't know this woman well enough to BBQ together. But, she felt it was appropriate to stop me in my tracks by wraping both hands around my thigh. She said " your so tiny" Awkward moment was also a nice compliment.

These are all so great!

Mine happened today at work. I was in the hall talking to another teacher who is "normal" sized. After she left, a friend came up and whispered in my ear...

"Your butt is smaller than hers!"

School open house, visiting student run displays when my daughter was a junior. Kids she had gone to school with for years, since like first grade who had come over to my house didn't recognize me.

I live 5+ hours away from my parents & sister.

Last Mother's Day weekend, I got up at o'dark o'clock and made quick work of the drive to their hometown.

I went to my Mom's favorite brunch restaurant and snuck in and sat at her table. Dad & Sis were in on the deal....Mom was clueless.

Dad walked her into the restaurant and she saw me....from 15' away and turned back to Dad and said, "There is a man sitting at our table....we'd better find another". Dad chuckled and asked her to look back and see who the man was.....Mom did.....and the look of recognition started to grow on her face and then a huge smile that lit up the room.

She almost dropped her cane and fell into a big old bear hug from me.

Mom has been through so much medical challenges in her adult life.....and a heap of them lately, too. It was so nice to spend the weekend there......visit with her....cook for her.....and just enjoy being there and seeing her happy.

My sister had bypass surgery 15 years or so back. She's absolutely done a miraculous job of staying true to the diet and rocked post-op life really well. We all witnessed the miracle of wls in her life..........and being able to see it take root in my life was a great relief to my parents.

I've had a few good ones - a couple I may have posted previously, so forgive me for any repeats:

My contractor - I have been using this guy for home updates for years, but haven't seen him for quite some time. He did not recognize me when I first came into the room, then when it hit him he yelled out my name, his eyes became very misty, and a gave me a huge bear hug. Keep in mind this is a strappin' manly man type of dude. He was clearly overwhelmed.

My mom - I hadn't seen her in a few months, and met her at a function. I was parking the car, so she was standing with my wife. She asks where I am, my wife points and says "right there" she asks again, my wife points again. She finally recognizes me, and also wells up with emotion (my mother is very unemotional)

Cleaning lady at work - speaks only Spanish. I see her when I travel about every six weeks. She flips out when she sees me, starts rattling of spanish, moves her hands up and down her sides and exclaims "MUCHO MUCHO MUCHO"

Former co-worker - I met her for lunch and she hadn't seen me in a long time. Is in utter shock when she sees me and says "I heard I needed to be prepared, that you lost a lot of weight, but hold cow, you look like a different person". Then I start talking to her, but can tell she isn't hearing a word I was saying - she interrupts me and says "I'm sorry, but I just need to stare at you for a few minutes, it's CRAZY"

These are some of the most fun ones, but it happens on an almost daily basis. Seeing the lack of recognition, then the utter shock on peoples faces is pretty entertaining and validating. I keep thinking I must have run into everyone I know by know, but it seems at least weekly I run into new people. Even the people I see everyday comment often. Almost daily I hear "You are getting SO skinny", "You are shrinking before our eyes", "You look so amazing". Pretty cool change from being obese my whole life. I'll take it.

Or as my daughter says "UGH, you are so bony and uncomfortable to cuddle with now!". But I'll take my bones poking my daughter while I hug her for the next 40 years over being soft and dead in less than 10!

I went to a Labor Day barbecue to visit my family and everyone made comments about how good I look and said "Wow, you've lost so much weight!"

The validation was nice :) Sometimes it's hard to notice the changes myself because my weight loss has been very gradual.

I went to a store I used to frequent pre-op. It is a small local store where everyone speaks and is very friendly and helpful. Since it has been so long since I had been there most of the staff was new. I did wind up asking the owner where to find something and I don't think he even recognized me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
