New focus- EXERCISE. Lots of questions...

Recommended Posts

So. I am dealing with regain. Seeing the new surgeon in 4 days and not sure what he will have to tell me.

Likely that I am in for a LOT of work, which I'm willing to do.

However, I am feeling newly inspired and really looking for some form of serious exercise to do. I ordered Slim in 6 to start. But a couple months from now I'd really like to transition to something that is a bit more serious. I love American Ninja Warrior type competitions and love seeing what friends who go to crossfit are doing. I am truly inspired by an acquaintance that competes in fitness competitions.

I am not nearly in any shape to consider those things, however I'm sure there are others in those places who all started out like me!

Does anybody have some great suggestions for me, once I get going, for something to focus on? I have found that if I have a VERY SPECIFIC goal to attain I can remain focused.

Thanks in advance!

You should try crossfit!!! I know one of the crossfit gyms where I live, will adapt all exercises for any age, size, physical ability. Back in my day, I used to do it. It was the toughest workout I had ever done. Sometimes I would even throw up afterwords. I always left feeling like I had tackled Mount Everest. It was a great feeling and very rewarding.

I, too, am struggling w/regain & went for my two year follow up on Friday. The exercise physiologist recommended Hiit training (this includes weights) two times a week and two days a week of aerobics ( I like Zumba). For my Hiit workout I absolutely love my DVD by Cathe Friedrich. Only 30 minutes.

He explained it's not how long I workout but how effective I workout. He is specifically interested that I keep my heart rate w/i my target zone of 130-155. He is certain if I reduce my calories, start logging my meals again and being mindful of my heart rate, the weight should drop again. Here's hoping he's correct

good luck to you! i'm planning on seeing the trainer at my Y, since we have a membership there right now and at least getting a weight program started.

my membership to the local Y ends in April and we probably won't renew it (due to costs, it's over $1200 per year!). at that point I plan to find either a crossfit gym OR hire a personal trainer who is into lifting/fitness competitions and seeing what they can do for me.

I figure I have about 6 months to get started on my own with my Slim in 6 DVDs at home, plus utilizing the trainer I have available, AND see the new doctor this week. Between all those things I WILL be successful.

First I will be realistic and focus on LOSING, then TRAINING.

Revision surgery? I was sleeved, nothing to revise to since all of my health conditions have been resolved.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
