Help! Please could someone give me advise

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I had my surgery 3.5 months ago. I woke up this morning with a horrible sore throat and bad cold. I have no idea what to take for this. I know our stomachs don't absorb Vitamins and medication like they used to. So what are we allowed to take? I'll be working around cancer patients on Tuesday so I need to be completely better.

Thanks so much

Amy

You can still gargle to relieve sore throat pain; warm salt Water. chicken broth will also help that pain. And/or you can buy chloreseptic spray and/or lozenges for throat pain. Vitamin C will help. Lots of Water, rest. Not much else to do to get rid of a cold; needs to run it's course. Most you can do is for paliation. Nasal spray if you're congested and can't breathe. Hope you feel better. Summer colds are never fun!!

Drink plenty of fluids of course. If you have to take something, you can take some liquid Tylenol but I don't really think that helps a cold much. Sometimes it just has to run its course.

Thank you everyone. Does anyone know how much our immune system is compromised from having this surgery? I know before the surgery I rarely got sick especially like this:/ my legs are even weak:/ I'm hoping it's not something more serious.

I use airborne at the first sign of a cold. I let it sit for a few minutes after dissolving so the fizz settles a little. I also used Musinex D 12 hour pill if I start with a lot of head congestion or coughing.

Since my surgeries, I am by far more healthy. With all the Vitamins I take (all prescribed by the bariatric surgeon; and I am complient), I RARELY get colds; and I work in a hospital with hands on patient care of some very sick people! Maybe you just need to recover a bit more. 3 1/2 months is still kind of new, especially with the changing weight.

Hope you went to the Dr. Might be an infection brewing... nothing abx can't handle. Hope you're feeling better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
