Difference between Stage 1 & 2 Baby food?

Recommended Posts

Ok,

On Tues. (9/4) I get to start my pureed phase of my post op diet. On it one of the things I can have is baby food. The list says stage 1 but, there aren't very many choices. Is there really a big difference between stage 1 & stage 2? I am also starting back to work then and want to make sure I have everything to bring for my breakfasts and lunches for that week.:help::help::help::help::help:

Can anyone tell me? :(

I think that will be fine, you can add a little broth or something as you puree. I am just finishing with the puree phase. I was afraid the baby food would not have enough flavour so I ended up making my own purees. I cooked a sweet potato and pureed it with some carrot juice. It was very good. I also pureed hard boiled eggs with mayo and plain yogourt. Also did canned tuna the same way. Good luck, I am sure you will do fine.

Heather: Unlike some of the posters on this forum I really loved the baby food. Great portion size (no waste) & as long as I add some low sodium "light" salt they are great! I like the pureed fruit ones & I love the chicken & ham Stage 2. The Stage 3 has chunks in it but I really didn't see much of a difference in 1 & 2. I think 2 intruduces the meats. Gerber fruit juices were also a life saver for me the first few days after surgery. Very tiny serving which was perfect & I could change the flavors around. Wasn't too worried about sugar content, etc...the first few days because I was really concentrating on healing & not feeling weak going from about 5000 calories a day to about 500. Turkey & vegetables dinners are also good (Stage 2). Prune juice is great if you are having harder stools after surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
