What to eat now?

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

For me stage 3 is actually scarry since I am now on a cardiac diet due to an arterial blockage this last week.

I'm supposed to stay away from high fat and red meats, but my pureed foods were add mayo or dressing to everything. Does anyone have any soft food ideas that meet both bariatric and cardiac diets other then fish? I am not a fish eater usually but am trying to work it in more but it always seems so dry without the added fat.

Please any ideas are welcome.

Sorry to hear about your cardiac problem. I would suggest calling your nut and getting them to help you with a meal plan that will work for you.

I am guessing you have to stay away from salt as well.

Some ideas are to make chicken and use homemade stock to create your own fat free gravy which will make the chicken easier to eat.

Low fat cottage cheese......I eat this almost daily.

Shrimp, Fish and turkey.

Can you have olive oil? I would think so but I am not a nutritionist. I use strictly olive oil for sautéing meats and veggies.

Also you can find a heart healthy marinara sauce or make your own from homemade. This is excellent on chicken as well as shrimp.

Personally I would start looking up heart healthy recipes on Pinterest and you can pretty much replace any starches. I do this type of thing all the time.

Make yourself some chicken or turkey chili, add Beans (no pasta). Make it from scratch using chili powder to season and I know they have mrs dash as well.

Just some ideas to get you thinking about it......hope things get better soon.

You have a double whammy. I hope you have a NUT who should have an ideal plan for you. The FF Soups were a blessing, the low sodium broths, the low fat cheese sticks, FF refried Beans with salsa and sour cream, smoked Salmon, tuna, and even the shakes which never bothered me. I love the sugar free Torani syrups in all flavors. Good luck. If your insurance covers a nutritionist, or there is one on your surgeons staff, please look toward good advice! Best of luck!

I honestly didn't think to call my Nut, i wouldn't put off calling her for my bariatric food needs but didnt cross my mind for my cardiac needs.

I've been to busy making follow up appts and stressing to think clearly. I was only released last night from the hospital.

Thanks for reminding me she isn't just my sleeve Nut.

put chicken breasts in the crock pot for a few hours. juicy, tender, flavorful. and can add different seasonings after the fact to have more flavor variety in your diet.

I know you said you don't like fish but...

If you bake fish in the oven it can be very moist with no fat. Bake it in an aluminum foil packet. Try a mild fish like swai, very little fish flavor.

You can also cook ground beef, season it and add a pure Tomato sauce. You have to read the labels and find one with no added sugar.

Thank you all for the ideas.

I did call my Nut. Just waiting for her to call me back.

I will try cooking the fish in foil pockets and see if it helps with the dryness. I tried making salmon and it was dry, I'll look into other fish.

I usually go with chicken or turkey but i was told fish is better so I'm expanding my options.

a favorite of mine is shrimp sprinkled with some jerk seasoning or some other spicy goodness and broiled for just a couple minutes.

i'm not sure what your plan includes at this point, but if you are able to, it's pretty awesome!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
