My doctor's office submitted my information to my insurance on 8/30/16 and they called me today, 9/9/16, to tell me I've been approved! Surgery is scheduled for October 18, 2016 in Rochester MN (Mayo Clinic). It's starting to feel more and more real! :-)

Anyone else having surgery on or around that time?

@Thea1965 I started this journey one year ago and my day is now officially on the calendar. I'm 52 and I'm ready for this. I haven't met my surgeon yet but I've heard good things about him. I'll meet with him Oct 11 during my pre-op visit. No 2 week liquid diet for me. Just liquids the day before surgery. Do you have to do a 2 week liquid diet?

Good luck to you!

My husband and I had the RNY Gastric Bypass on October 18th. Feeling pretty good on postop day 3. Trying to stuff in our Water, Protein and the tablespoons of puréed food we can start. We never thought it would be this hard to eat! Lol! We'll keep plugging along!

Hi,

How are you doing? I had my RNY surgery on October 18, 2016. I am just beginning to feel like myself again. I am blessed that I haven't had to go to work. I'm just a little envious of the people that begin feeling better in a couple of days. When I look at the people on youtube they all seem to complete their recovery in record speed. My doctor said not to worry about it, but I admit I had to stop looking to youtube as my adviser in this journey.

Now that you are almost 3 weeks post op what are you eating? I think the first two weeks I was either nauseous or hungry. I'm glad I'm past that stage. Congratulations to everyone. Even though this has not been an easy experience, I do NOT regret my decision. I just wished I had done it earlier.

Attymc I'm glad your starting to feel better. Each day gets better and better for me. I'm in the puréed stage and I've been eating scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt... I have tried any recipes yet but I will staring next week when I get to move onto mechanical soft for 4 weeks.

I hope you continue to feel good. And yes, stay off YouTube

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
