What to bring to the hospital!

Recommended Posts

@@QueenOfTheTamazons Have your husband put a pillow in the car for the ride home!!! I told my SO that he needs to go to work the days I'm in the hospital (except surgery day). He can come and visit but I'd rather him be home for the dogs. We're only 15 minutes or so from the hospital so that's a plus.

Bring less than you think you should. I bought all new pajamas and stuff but I stayed in the Johnny the whole time. I'd wear one of their robes when I walked the halls. I realized I wanted to keep the hospital germs separate from my stuff. I ended up bringing and using phone, charger, toothpaste and toothbrush, hair ties and brush.

At the hospital ask for the lemon mouth swabs - those saved me from nausea a few times.

We are 3 hours from the hospital. I told him to "bring every fluffy pillow in the house and the pink blanket".

Not fluffy = dense memory foam

Pink blanket = beige fuzzy blanket, def not pink. But he thinks the sage blanket is grey. Men.

My dogs get super neurotic and clingy after we return, so i would rather he stay with them. I cant handle recovery and 250lbs of crazy dog.

Clean underwear

Deodorant

Face wipes

Pjs I didn't ever wear

Tablet, phone, and charger

Pillow

Toothbrush/paste

Wish I would've brought my blanket from home. I wore my wedding band and engagement ring as I refuse to take them off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
