What to bring to the hospital!

Recommended Posts

I brought my own pillow and small blanket. I was so glad I had that blanket. I took some panties that made me feel good too. You'll be up and walking so something for your feet although I was provided non skid socks. Toothpaste, dental floss, toothbrush, feels so good to brush. I too wore same clothes home.

I took personal hygiene items. Fresh socks and undies (need to have for ride home) as well as shorts. Wore my older undies (only wore for long enough to get from house to hospital) and shorts night of surgery so i could get around and walk without my butt out there for the world.

I brought biotene mouth spray but the hospital had these tasty mouth swabs that I used. Totally wasted money on that mouth spray. Brought gasx strips, still haven't used one. Wore home what I wore there. Daughter kept my pillow in her car for the short ride home, it helped. Used my cell and charger. Used my credit card for copay. That's about it. Was in hospital overnight/one day.

I was so excited, I brought fancy assed bras and underwear but only one freaking pair of pjs. Do yourself a favour and bring lots of comfortable cloths. Don't even bother with reading material. You will be catching up on your years worth of sleep.

Keep it simple.

Wear the same outfit home that you wore in.

I took:

my robe/slippers

my cell phone and charger

chapstick

my lavender soap (to remind me of home instead of "hospital" smell)

my rosary

I wore the same clothes home, left my wallet, wedding ring, watch, heck everything except my id and my insurance card at home. My wife hung onto my cell phone and iPad until I was in my room in case I wanted to read or text. Oh and I also brought my bipap. I even went as far as to wear glasses instead of my contacts. Easier to deal with. Never did use my iPad, slept most of the time. But I did get some text messages from people checking in on me.

I am going to bring my phone and tablet (for books), my sadly ugly but most comfortable night gown, my bipap, pillow, wallet with cc and ID.

I need to bring everything because i am driving 200 miles in a rental car the day before surgery, dropping the car off the morning of and taking an uber to the hospital. My husband ill drive down Friday to pick me up.

He can only get so much time off and i wanted him to be with me during the first few days home rather than stare at me sleep.

Pretty much what I took. I have a small square travel pillow that is perfect size for supporting my belly for turning and coughing. Also found that a mouth spray was invaluable when I couldn't drink anymore but my mouth was so dry and throat so sore. I never did use my tablet but checked email and answered a few texts on my phone. My sister was the designated contact and information disseminator.

I brought extension cord, charger, iPhone, iPad, slippers (I hate those damn socks they give you), bathrobe (so I wasn't showing the world my a$$), clean undies, toothbrush and toothpaste. (I have very curly hair, so I didn't need hair care items.) Wore home what I wore in, since I was first procedure of the day so I only had the clothes on for 1/2 hour. The extension cord was the most useful item because a standard iPhone cord is not long enough to reach the bedside table from most outlets in a hospital room.

I would take a warm blanket and socks. I also brought an extra change of underwear to change into. But I wore the same clothes the whole time. I was too out of it to brush my teeth or anything. Or wear a bra. Big baggy shirts are your friend.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
