Fitbit Aria Scale & Body Fat

Recommended Posts

Anyone use the Fitbit Aria scale or something like it to track body fat? My surgeon recommended I get it, so I spent the $130 bucks.

On the Day of surgery, I was 38.9% body fat according to my dr's scale, and the day I got home and got on my scale, it read 41.7% body fat.

I have since (8 weeks) lost 32 pounds, do at least 30 minutes of cardio p/ day, and began light weight training this week.

The scale has me down to 36.8% body fat, but I find that to be high as I'm 5'6" and 148lbs.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using their body fat function on their scale versus another way to determine body fat, and, if so, if there was or wasn't a disparity in the outcome?

Also, does anyone know another way to test your body fat at home? I think I heard the only truly accurate way is when you're submerged in Water and it tests you, but I'm not willing to pay for that just yet lol.

Or, maybe, I just have that much body fat and need to wake up!

So the problem with any body fat impedience measurement, it is always going to adjust from how hydrated you are at the time of measurement. I have an aria scale tied to my fitbit app and know that if I weigh myself in the morning, after my cardio workout, I am going to register high on my body fat due to being more dehydrated than I am say in the afternoon. I will also weigh less in the am then as well. If I were to weigh in the afternoon after eating and drinking Water throughout the day, it is going to register a lower body fat content due to more moisture being available throughout the body.

I also purchased a skulpt body fat monitor last fall. This is a tool that can help you track body fat as well. This tool measure specific areas of your body and then gives you an overall score. I think it is a little more accurate than the aria scale but I like having both tools in my arsenal. I love my fitness gadgets and have several. :)

I had a DEXA scan 3 days ago. It only measured my bone density?

I did just read about it, and my body fat info should be part of the report. I guess my dr was only interested in bone density. I'll find out if they'll tell me my BF %.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
