Hello from the other side..

Recommended Posts

I finally had my surgery after a minor setback involving a necrotic gallbladder two days before my scheduled surgery date. I am day two post op and preparing to go home later this evening.

The hardest party as been the gas pains and gurgling in my esophagus and stomach. I was informed this is normal and its hair trying to escape the small space that is my new stomach.

I have been very sleeping today since I have pushed myself to walk more then required. It honestly feels better to get up and moving.

I know this is going to be a long road to recovery( 6 weeks off work at minimum). Any other September sleeves out there that want to start a group?

When you have abdominal surgery they blow your entire abdominal cavity up with some kind of gas. They do this to lift the skin up and make it easier to get to and see what they need to operate on. One of the incisions is the spot where they insert the tube for the gas.

I haven't had my sleeve yet but I had my gallbladder out years ago. The gas pain was terrible, it hurt really bad up in my right shoulder, like someone was stabbing me.

This gas isn't in your intestinal tract, it is out in your body cavity. The best thing you can do to relieve it is get up and walk, for some reason this causes the gas to dissipate.

Not everyone has this kind of gas pain but it is very common. I am bracing myself for having it after the sleeve because like I said I had it after gallbladder surgery.

Anyway, it sounds like you are doing well. I hope you feel better and better every day :)

Moving around really does help this pain. I just had my gallbladder out 3 weeks ago and didn't experience it. I anticipated having this type of pain based on the nature of the surgery.

I'm at home now and feeling pretty darn good.

Thank you for your well wishes!

@@Smashley23 I am still waiting for a surgery date. I had my psych eval a couple of weeks ago and last week the lady in my surgeon's office who submits to insurance said they were waiting for the report to come. Then they will send it to BCBSTX.

I want to ask how long does this report usually take to come? After they submit (they think it will be approved no problem) how long until they get the approval? Then how long until surgery is scheduled?

Tomorrow I may call and ask those things but I don't want to be an annoying jerk. I am a people pleaser, I don't want to aggravate the office staff.

Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed to have this done before long :)

Once they had all of my paperwork it took about 10-14 business days. Every insurance company is different though. They had a time limit to respond. Also once I got the green light from my insurance, I was able to schedule my surgery for about 10 days later. I just ran into some problems and had to bump the sleeve back. I feel like once your paperwork is all submitted it goes by so fast.

Congratulations. I had my surgery on aug30th . Got home from The hospital on day 3. I haven't had problem with náuseas . I am having puree foods now. Só hard bailes egg with mayo só Is not dry and pass on the blender. I had tuna too it was ok.... Not feeling about eating the can meats so I guess in order to get my 60 grams of Protein daily I will have to drink the Protein drinks twice a day. So it be. I find the can meats nasty :-(. Can't hardly wait for the chewing days to come back. I guess 3 more weeks? I am feeling a little sore on my belly but nothing to need to take any pain killer. Having a little problem with Constipation so taking meds at night for it. Would like to hear suggestion for foods. Thank you.

I'm still on liquids and it's been hard getting enough in. I know I'm only 4 days post op so I am still pretty swollen. I feel like the hardest part is I can't tell what my body needs or wants at this time. My sleeve and I need to start communicating better so I know how to take care of it best. I don't know that I feel hungry but have a gurgling sensation from time to time. I do know what full and drank way too fast feels like. Both are not pleasant. How long did it take for some of you to become intune with your body post op?

We definitely should start a group. Maybe on Facebook? We can make it private so only we can access it. Would anyone be interested? I might make a thread to see how people feel.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
