Tara1992 79 Posted September 8, 2016 (edited) Hey all, I was wondering if anyone's doctor told them he/she made your stomach "very small"? My doctor told me this many times and I've asked what he means and he said he's making them much smaller now. He said I should only be able to fit about 2 ozs. My mom had the same surgery 5 weeks before me and he tells her it's 4ozs. She also had a ridiculously easy recovery. I guess I'm just confused why he did this. My recovery IS awful and I can basically eat nothing. I just hope this feeling goes away. I feel my body starving itself. 2ozs of puree every 2—3 hours... Very hard! Genr2d2 21 Posted September 8, 2016 That is definitely weird! I'd ask him to clarify his statement and then ask for an explanation.
Babbs 14,681 Posted September 8, 2016 He's probably talking about bougie size. A bougie is basically the guide they use to staple and overlap and staple the stomach once they close the remainder up. It doesn't have a lot to do with stomach size, but a smaller bougie could mean more restriction as it's a bit "tighter" than a larger one. Or possibly he took more than the typical 80-85% of your stomach? Which actually would alarm me, because usually the more they take, the higher risks of complications. I would totally ask him to clarify for you and ask why he did yours smaller?

I've actually asked him about three times and he says he makes them much smaller now then what he used to due to people needing revisions and our bodies can handle smaller stomachs. I'm not feeling sick anymore but it was definitely different then most of the recoveries I've heard about. Babbs 14,681 Posted September 8, 2016 @@Tara1992 Hmmm interesting. I'll have to watch your progress to see how things go for you with the "smaller" tummy. I'm actually kind of jelly, lol.

Lol a couple people I know who've had the surgery were jealous too. I threw up for 3 days straight, you wouldn't have been jealous over that aspect lol. But I'm about done week two and still on very thin liquids. Just started have about 3 baby bites of puree! KristenLe 5,979 Posted September 12, 2016 @@Tara1992 eggs are hard for a lot of people. From week 1-6 - my plan has me still doing Protein shakes to get in enough Protein since it's difficult to get it in through food that early.
suzzzzz 1,005 Posted September 12, 2016 I am 2.5 mths out and I still have 1-2 Protein Shakes a day because I cannot eat enough solid Protein to meet goal. And, my doc said he determines boogie size individually. He said he gave me a little bit larger one based my personal experiences, health and age. He said he would use a smaller one on someone who was younger and had a lot more weight to lose than I did. He also said it doesn't matter the size in the long run. Everyone can meet their goals.
