Hello everyone, I just thougth I would give a quick update since last time I wrote I was not yet part of the Banster's club.

I was banded on September 20th by Dr. Gozalez in Tijuana Mex.; so today is 12 days post op for me.

All and all, I would say that Dr. Gonzalez, Dr Valenzuala, Laura and all the staff at the clinic took care of me like a Queen! Everyone was sooooo nice, the clinic was just beautiful, and Laura (my little angel) was there for me the whole time; from the moment I set foot in San Diego to the moment I left. THANK YOU!

The surgery went fine, as far as pain goes, the gas pain was the worse... a bit more then what I expected. The pain lasted about a week.

The only pain I have felt is some back pain that comes and goes for the last couple of day. I haven't figured out yet if it's something I'm doing, drinking or eating... Off course, I'm a little nervous with every little disconfort I experience. I wonder: Did I eat too much?!? (I'm on mushies for now) Did my band slip?!? Did I strech my pouch?!? A little paranoia after reading the Thread "Band Complications" while looking for anyone else having back pain... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Tomorrow I'm seeing my Family Dr. for my annual... I'm curious of her reaction when I tell her what I've done!!! I have a feeling she won't be impressed. I'll ask her if I can get an X-ray done, hopefully that will put a stop to my worries and I'll see that my band is OK.

Today two of my little tapes on my incisions fell, I was happy to see that the incisions are tiny and healing beautifully.

So far so good...

Talk to you guys later!

Annie

Hi Frenchie,

Just wanted to let you know I had the back pain too. Right between the shoulder blades. I was told it is also gas. I was relieved and happy to hear that it was normal. It did go away just like the shoulder pain. Congrats on your new Band!!

I'm also in the Ottawa area (on the Quebec side). I'd be happy to get together with others in the area.

I just found out there is an Ottawa doctor, Dr. Bishop, who does fills. Unfortunately it's only for Dr. Cobourn's patients from Toronto. Right now I'm travelling to Drummondville for my fills and it's FARRRRRRR!

BTW, Quebec residents only have to pay for the band (about $5000). I did have to wait 9 months on a waiting list though.

I have not yet gotten the operation but I would love to talk about it with all of you.

I am very interested but just worried about the costs...

There is another doctor in Ottawa that does do fills, His name is Dr Josee Gustaukas. He is located at 107-770 Broadview Avenue (613) 725-9180. I was banded in Toronto in May and did have a fill with him back in August. He charges 75.00 for each fill.

As of yesterday I am down by 88lbs.

Got to love that band.:clap2::whoo::rolleyes:

Can Anyone who'se had an unfill or fill from an ottawa doctor or nurse PLEASE say something about how it was!!! I need an unfill, and its cheaper to pay 75$ than to go to toronto again. Or if not, IS ANYONE GOING TO TORONTO SOON???

I've had a fill and a defill from Dr. Gutaskas and it took 30 seconds everything went well, I would recommend it.

Thanks, I just woke up at 5am today, spent about 9 hours on a train and paid about 200$ to go to tlbc for about 2 minutes. I was in toronto about an hour :S I think I'll try him next time. I think it wouldve worked today, all i needed was a defill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
