izzy13 117 Posted September 8, 2016 Found out yesterday I'm scheduled for the 12th! I'm the same, excited and nervous but my sister had it done a year and a half ago and she loves it so I'm lucky that I have her to keep me sane lol!! Good luck!!! -liz
MickiinFL 14 Posted September 8, 2016 You too Liz!! It's great that you have a support system at home that knows exactly how you feel! I'm excited for you.
Deja007 14 Posted September 8, 2016 Hi I'm new first day on here and I'm scheduled for surgery Oct 3rd. Sort of excited no one knows but my spouse and children. Have no positive support so I'm keeping it a secret for now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
MickiinFL 14 Posted September 8, 2016 Well hi Deja!! Nice to meet you. I think we all come here for positive support. The one thing we all have in common is that we have a weight problem and we need the help of WLS to accomplish our goals. Good luck!
eye1der 11 Posted September 8, 2016 My date is 10/04/16. I am very excited! However, I have to notify my supervisor and I am nervous to ask for the time off for the surgery. I have debated on whether or not to just request a 2 week vacation or let them know I am having this surgery. I guess I feel embarrassed about my weight and I don't feel other people within the workplace will understand. I feel like I need to work up the courage to inform them with a positive attitude and maybe this will create a positive reaction (a mirror effect). Has any one else felt this way with their work place and how did you handle it?
MickiinFL 14 Posted September 8, 2016 I am pretty sure you don't have to tell them why you need off while requesting sick leave. I believe if you request FMLA your rights should be protected. I would request FMLA papers from your HR at work for your doctors to fill out. When you turn them back in make sure they go directly to Hr.

izzy13 117 Posted September 8, 2016 @@eye1der I'm telling my office I'm having surgery but for either my gallbladder or hiatal hernia, that way I'm not lying and don't have to make up crazy stories about a vacation that didn't really happen but also keep the real reason to myself. I have 1 coworker I told, I trust her to keep it quiet and we are good friends but I'm going to have her help me keep it under wraps. Like back up my "I'm on a diet" story for the next couple of weeks leading up to the procedure so then when I come back a few pounds down its not so shocking. I'm glad to have found some other October sleevers!!
