I've searched the past posts but this isn't something I have found. I am finally to the approval process but the Surgeons nurse is not helpful. Matter of fact she's very negative and dismissive. I do see a therapist and Psychiatrist so because of my mental diagnosis she (the nurse) has decided I won't get approved by Medicare. My Psychiatrist wrote an approval letter and listed my diagnosis with Depression, Acute Anxiety disorder and Disassociate Identity Disorder and he is very supportive and says losing weight will be helpful with Depression. She rejected the first two evaluations he sent and today he sent a third that had everything she needed but when she called me today she said she is going to have to research DID but it's not likely I'd be approved. I know that he took the diagnosis of DID off the evaluation because it was causing issues and when she and I spoke I tried to tell her that people with PTSD get approved all the time according to research I've done her response was " So you have PTSD too?". So, now what? I want to just change surgeons but not cause any attitude. People change Dr's all the time right? She shouldn't care right? As long as I'm nice and just say something like it's not a good time to go ahead and I'll get back with her if I decide to proceed with the surgery. I have approval from my PCP and Psychiatrist so why so much drama?

I would tell her you weren't going to continue being treated poorly and would find another Program. I would then file a complaint against her with the practice or hospital. It's not for her to research and decide. That's why we get psych clearance. Medicare will have your diagnostic history so she should submit the correct info and work to get it approved - not look for reasons why you shouldn't be approved.

Thank you. I usually don't take things personally but this one got me. I'll call today and tell her...something. I'm just nervous I guess. She could mess things up for me if she tried.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
