Is this really happening NOW, September 19?

Recommended Posts

I went for my 1st consult 7/1/16 for gastric sleeve surgery, blood work 7/7, sleep study 7/10, PCP on 7/12 to get clearance, psychological evaluation 7/13, second sleep study 7/26 (yep, sleep apnea)30 day visit with surgeon 8/11... Insurance approved it medically necessary and my surgery is set for Sept. 19... In 12 days! Gosh that happened quickly. I'm so nervous , yet I'm equally as excited . I feel like my head is spinning. Good thing is, my husband happens to be on vacation that week! Clear Liquids the day before surgery is my prep. Although starting Monday the 12th, pre-op day, I'll watch what I eat and stop rice, breads, pastas, ... I need to be pinched, is this REAL? Oh, I've met my deductible this year, insurance will be at 100%... REALLY?!! SMH, Pinch me again!

This is awesome! Be sure to message me if I can answer any questions for you. I am a few days shy of 12 weeks post surgery. I spent less than 24 hours in the hospital - I had it done at Women's in Baton Rouge. I had excellent care. If you are nice to the nurses they will bring you your favorite popcicles. I was all pumped just like you are and was very calm regarding the surgery because it was a much needed to get me on a new track! I was back at work after two weeks. Keep the positive attitude and it will go very well for you.

I'll go to Slidell for mine, Dr. Rachel Moore. I was hoping for Slidell over Metairie. (My insurance covers Slidell, but not Metairie - Go figure! ) I'm really nervous, as I seriously didn't think my insurance would cover the surgery. And thanks, I just may need some advice soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
