5 days post op and I'm hungry!

Recommended Posts

I found things so different even in the same country and same doctor. I had to do a two week pre-op, a friend I sent down to the same surgeon had to do a three day pre-op diet. I'm sending another friend down to Tijuana, she's yet to get any instructions, but it will be interesting to see what she's told (by a different doctor).

There's several of us that had surgery in Tijuana that have all stayed in contact, and collectively we all did what was best for us. Our bodies told us what we could and couldn't do, I don't believe in suffering, and I never had a single issue or problem. Good luck to all!

I saw Dr. alejandro lopez. The staff was amazing the facility was nice & the recovery boutique was my favorite. I had no issues with anyone not speaking English either.

In the UK we are permitted puréed food from day 1 post-op. Tiny amounts obviously. There seem to be no hard and fast rules. I am 5 weeks out and back to eating virtually normally. Just way way smaller portions. And 35lbs down.

Yes smaller portions!! I had some Light & Fit Greek yogurt this morning and 2 tablespoons I was stuffed. Lol this is crazy. I made it through my 1st week. Yayy!!

@@turtle5569,

Congratulations on your surgery! You’re barely eating, so it makes sense that you’re hungry. You’re eating Gelatin, broth, and popsicles – basically glorified forms of water! It’s great that you’re getting in your Protein, but that number of calories isn’t going to be enough to satisfy hunger for long.

If possible, I would suggest doing what you can to just get through this tough period. If your surgeon or nutritionist has not okayed pureed foods, I wouldn’t recommend them, even if you think you can handle them.

As for weight loss…you will lose more weight when your body is ready. Remember, you have lost 10 pounds in the past 15 days. That’s a lot! And your body is under a lot of stress right now. You essentially starved it for 10 days on the pre-op diet, then you went through surgery. That’s a really big deal! Hang in there and follow the diet, and you will lose the weight.

Good luck!

Honestly it's probably the acid production you are feeling. I called and was told to take dry swallows to increase peristalsis and that I could try Mylanta. Haven't felt 'hungry' since. Make sure you are on a PPI

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
