Have taken acid reflux Meds daily for the last year or so. They took me off of them beginning the day of surgery. I am one week post op and haven't had a single episode since before surgery. Have any other experienced the same and when (if at all) were you put back on your Meds?

I was given 40 mg of acid reflux med 2 X daily by my surgeon. I don't know if it's forever or what. Prior to surgery, I had acid reflux for years.

I don't know what's going on with me. I knew I had acid reflux before my surgery but when my surgeon sleeved me, he fixed a hiatal hernia the size of his fist he said. He told my husband he didn't think I would ever have to take medication again but I've been having a feeling of a lump that food won't go down and I have that unreal hunger pang feeling that I had before my surgery. The lump isn't in my stomach but higher up so I am sure that is where the hernia was but the grinding hunger pangs are in my stomach, which I assume is the acid reflux because it's even after a meal. I don't know if this is just swelling that hasn't gone down from the hernia or if it's just normal after being sleeved. Anyone have any answers?

@@connie6140 The grinding hunger pains might be stomach acid but not reflux. That is common post-op for some time and you should take a PPI for that. The lump is probably from swelling and the hiatal hernia repair. It will probably take a little longer to heal.

@@KristenLe Thank you so much for the response! So what's a good PPI? Is there any over the counter or will I need to call my doctor! I think you are exactly right! The acid makes perfect sense! I've been eating Tums but it only helps for just a few short minutes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
