My general dr said I am dehydrated, starved, anemic (mildly) and had high ketones level. But when I saw my dietician who works for my surgeon, she said I'm doing fine and just make sure to drink enough Water and eat 5-6 small meals. Before this I was eating like 4 very small meals. She advised me to eat a few carbs and not to totally exclude them. I really liked my weight loss being every other day. Does anyone have any input on this or why two healthcare people wouldn't agree?

I see no one answered your post. All I can add is that I would stick with what your surgeon wants for you and his dietician. A primary care doc may not be well versed in bariatrics and the new normal for is patients. Just call your clinic and speak with a nurse they are your best bet. I hope you find the reassurance you're looking for. Good luck.

I'd stick to what your general doc is telling you. Nutritionists are not doctors. They're nutritionists. Check with your bariatric team and ask them if they agree with your primary.

How did this turn out? I am almost 8 weeks out. I went to dr for kidney infection and she said I was very dehydrated and maxed out on ketones. I don’t even know what this means. She worked me in right before lunch and rushed me out. The main thing she said is that if I don’t get 6 bottles of Water in daily until Friday I would end up in hospital.

How do you feel? Trust your surgeon and NUT. Try to drink more Water, one sip every ten minutes. I had the worst time drinking water for the first 8 months after surgery. Had to force myself all day long.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
