Maybe you are actually hungry. Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids?

Definitely not getting in enough fluids or Protein. The only Protein I get is in what little food I eat.

The physical hunger comes back once the post op swelling starts going down. For me it was hunger, but I could only eat very little.

As Inner Surfer Girl said, Proteins and fluids are essential in recovery.

I still add Protein powder to my morning yoghurt, and at 6 months post op I have noticed an increase in my appetite.

Still stick to the basics and measure my portions, and drink loads of Water, as I can now guzzle it.

My stomach has healed, so I feel hunger more these days. Just sticking to the Protein and fluids rule.

4 weeks out, I feel hunger also. I'm getting in my Protein. Especially when I wake in the middle of the night. My tummy feels so empty.

You need to get in enough fluids and protein. My plan suggests supplementing with shakes during this phase - as it is nearly impossible to get in enough protein without them. Gherlin is reduced with the sleeve - not completely gone. It would seem you are truly hungry and need to drink and eat according to your plan.

I was like this too in addition to the above posts, I found that my hunger was timed to my eating times before the vsg, so I thought of it as my habitual hunger and convinced myself that it would change as I got use to my new feeding reality. I don't know about you but my hunger also triggered a sense of anxiety for me as well so realising that I just prepared for it with mindfulness practices and had food ready like a mozzarella stick or took sips of my shake. My hunger response has definitely gotten better.

I've had what I consider to be physical hunger pains, but it's a hollow feeling just below the breastbone. A little research told me that it could be from acid if I've forgotten my PPI pills, but also if the sleeve gets completely empty it can cause an uncomfortable feeling. I see it as a reminder to keep drinking if it's not mealtime, because getting anything down makes it go away. I also feel it when I wake up in the morning until I start drinking my Breakfast Protein shake.

I have the same problem - I'm 3 weeks out. I've found that my hunger decreases when:

1) I avoid artificial sweetner, and,

2) I bulk up on the Protein.

If I keep my Protein above 80 and carbs below 40, hunger isn't a huge problem.

I've had this a few times. And I had the anxiety too. Not being able to eat but feeling starved. This happened in the grocery store. I wanted everything and felt so hungry, but I knew I couldn't physically even eat.

I'm trying to eat sustaining food now that I'm on purees. It's still comes in waves but one bite of oatmeal or guacamole and the anxiety goes away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
