How much should I be able to eat

Negative people. People who like to judge. People who think they know it all.

Sigh.

People who ask questions, get real answers, get angry...

Sigh.

The point is to answer the question(s) they ask. Real answers are great as long as they are the answer to their question. Everything else is irrelevant. Get it? :)

I disagree. My answers are for the benefit of EVERYONE reading and a lot of times, what seems like a yes or no question is actually so much more. I'd say most people who spend their valuable time here attempting to pay it forward are doing so because they care. Nothing "irrelevant" about that.

I'd throw in a flippant "get it" and an emoji, too, but I am sure that would be taken as sarcasm. ;)

@@gustavio I've read through this whole thread and it seems that your plan says 4T of banana is fine, and that's what you ate. I don't really understand what you're asking? Soft, mashed and liquid foods will move through your sleeve faster than heavier foods will later on, so you probably could eat more than 4T of some of them, but it probably isn't a great idea. I didn't feel real restriction at 2 weeks, I thought I was but it was only until I moved to non-pureed meats that I felt true restriction. When you feel it, you'll know it. And my plan doesn't allow for bananas at all, so I'm having a little banana envy over here.

Many people probably could get 4T in pretty soon post-op, but just don't try. I never tried any more than my doc suggested at 2 weeks out because I didn't want to push the limits of what my sleeve could hold...that might be why it seems like others have less capacity. Just guessing.

Read carefully. I commended some. I just don't get the condescending tone of some of these people on this thread. They know who they are which is why they keep coming back to get the last word.

If you ate 4 tablespoons and you are allowed 4 tbs, what was the post about? I never seen a 4 tbs banana btw.

It was mashed. It was just shy of 4 tbs. my question was about if it were normal to be able to eat what your allowed. Others seem to eat much less. Also, all of the other things I eat, I can tolerate much less.

Thanks shaunie. I actually thought about that. However, I'm not allowed Peanut Butter until next week for whatever reason. I usually stop before I'm full. Usually when the hunger sensation goes away, I stop eating. Getting my Protein in has been a constant struggle for me. Since the surgery I've not found a shake that doesn't make me vomit. My doctor actually told me to stop trying because I dehydrated myself. I did get some unflavored gene pro and try to add it to things it will mix with.

I would have to say - if getting in your Protein is a constant struggle - eating a banana instead of a protein-rich food was probably not a good choice. If you are waiting for the hunger sensation to go away before stopping eating - you will end up eating far too much and possibly cause complications. If you don't care about that - then I don't understand why you posted a question in the first place. You were the person who got incredibly rude with people and are acting as you are the know-it-all. If you only ate 4 tbs and that's what your NUT suggested - then why did you think it was too much?? Why did you ask the question in the first place - if you already knew the answer?!!

So it's not really for you to decide if the question was relevant or not. I am actually eating much less than the NUT has planned for me. So overeating is not a problem. The hunger sensation usually goes away in just a few bites. So that's far too much? Lol. ???? It just so happens I asked in this case because it was the first time I'd eaten that much. Know it all? Hardly. I wouldn't be asking questions if I knew it all. My NUT actually suggested the bananas because of the leg cramps I have been getting, I'm not a fan of bananas but I am following her guideline for ME. Thanks for your input.

If that is your allowed portion, and that is what you ate, then why are you asking advice from random strangers? Your plan has outlined what you are allowed to eat and you are following it.

I added a lot positive to the post, weighing and measuring your food is the key. If you are weighing and measuring your food and eating your proper allowed portion from your plan, how is there a question? 1/4 cup of food is a normal portion for most patients.

I'm just not saying what you want to hear? You are being really nasty to people over a banana.

And the banana I had was mashed and just shy of the 4 tbs. I am "sticking" to what my NUT suggests and if she says tbs, then that's what I'll do. Everyone's plan is different

And my answer isn't FOR YOU, it's for anyone reading. :)

I can take a large banana full of sugar, little protein', throw it in my food processor and reduce it to 4 Tablespoons.

I can also take 3-4 cups of puffy Cheetos, throw them in my food' processor and reduce those down to 4 Tablespoons.

Measure it before you mash it. Just a thinking point for those who are receptive.

I'm not being nasty. I'm defensive because people are being judgmental. My plan is different than some. People are having issues with that. I was basically asking that if at 2 weeks out, were people able to eat as much as allowed or still less. The issue want that it was a banana or that it has sugar or carbs or any of that. I asked a question and people jumped in automatically being judgmental. I'm not here for that. I legitimately was asking advice from a group that is created and FOR questions. No body is in charge of what kind of questions are asked. I was under the impression we could ask what we want. I'm an adult, this catty bs is for middle school and quite frankly, I'm over it.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
