How much should I be able to eat

Recommended Posts

So today I ate an entire banana in one sitting. I ate slow of course but kept waiting to get full and didn't. I'm worried my "pouch" is too big? I'm almost 2 weeks out and this is the most I've eaten. I usually don't stop when I'm full, I stop when I start to feel a small amt of pressure.

I was wondering the same thing! I had about a 1/4 cup of thin oatmeal and no sugar applesauce today. never had a problem, but if I drink too much Protein Shake I feel pressure..

a banana is a food that is going to smush down and go through pretty easily. also, our stomachs once healed should be about that size.

dense Protein should prove to be much more filling for you.

Not trying to be rude but........Thanks for the nutritional facts but that wasn't what I was inquiring about. It was a grab and go snack on my way to work. It's on my diet plan that my NUT provided, so please keep opinions out of it. Thank you.

I was trying to explain since you asked "why wouldn't I???" I gave the info because this is why I wouldn't.

I think the maximum tolerated volume (MTV) depends on the size of the bougie used during surgery. I believe my NUT said my sleeve will have a 150 ml MTV, don't remember though... Wrote it down somewhere.

Bananas come in all sizes..I could eat a small banana but only half of a large one.

At 2 weeks out I couldn't eat more than a couple tablespoons before I was satisfied. I certainly wasn't hungry so it was a chore to eat. (Even now at almost 8 months out). I really didn't start feeling the pressure or fullness till I was on soft foods. This is when I really starting feeling the restriction.

Nor was I trying to be rude.

Many plans vary in food type it would seem. fruit wasn't on mine for a long while. Bananas are certainly a food that I'll enjoy on occasion in the future once my weight loss is done and I'm on cruise control. I can see adding it to a Fiber rich Breakfast Cereal.

To specifically answer your question....I really don't know.

I ate the portion size that I was instructed to eat at the various checkups with my surgeon.

If I eat too fast I'll get the full feeling and I don't like it.

I can say this......in the early days there wasn't much restriction noted by me with the Protein shakes or yogurt. Once I advanced to chicken, steak and the like it was absolutely noticeable and has been to this very day. I pray it is there forever.

I just got off the phone with my nurse who asked my surgeon how much my stomach will hold after the sleeve, and she responded with 6-8 ounces (so MTV = 177ml to 236 ml for my sleeve). Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
