I'm stressing about my 4 week pre-op diet.

It's a long time to be on Meal Replacements.

I have fears that I won't sick to the diet abd I won't ready for the operation. What if this means I won't be successful after the surgery because I can't do 4 weeks of shakes?

So many negative thoughts. If you have any advice or willing to share your experience, I'd love to hear.

Thousands of us have struggled with the before and after surgery diets of shakes, Soups, broths, etc., remember that. You will make it too, I promise. Keep busy and look toward the reward of good health and changing your life for the better.

Don't sweat it, I cheated on mine however I only cheated with low carb food like a small piece of meat and some romaine lettuce[emoji6]

I was wondering about that, if I go of diet try to limit to to protien.

The pre-op is to shrink your liver so it is lighter and smaller for their to be less complications during surgery. Visualize the doctor accidentally nicking your spleen, because they couldn't see past your liver. I did that, and it made that broth, ice pops and Protein shakes taste fine. It's only a couple of days and once your on the other side of surgery you will find the weeks fly by so fast. Your so thrilled with the changes in your body you stop obsessing on what you can't have. In fact, my day fly's so fast I realize I didn't get all my Protein in. I'm almost 3 months in and lost 36 lbs and eating normal food again all be it tiny portions.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
