Anyone starting to think this isn't the "right" answer/tool?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 17/08. I never had a single thought of regret but I have never been "not overweight" in my life. Carrying all that fat with me all the time nearly destroyed my back, I probably would be diabetic in the next couple of years not to mention psychological damage caused by being "the fat girl".

Before the surgery I was fully aware of the risks and how my life will change but I never expected being actually proud of myself every single day just for doing something drastic to improve my life.

I'm really happy (even without looking at the scale... which makes me even happier ;)) that I did it.

It's a personal decisions and i felt like you up to the very last moments (before they put me under) i had reservations. My sleeve was done on 6-17-16 and it was one of the best decissions ive ever made. My highest weight was 360 and now im 270 feeling great, exercising more and eating healthier. I think this saved my life from other weight caused diseases.

I had always been the person who felt like surgery was fine for others if that's what they chose to do. I felt like I could loose the weight myself. I've lost and regained several times. I finally decided on surgery as a means to help me loose but also help me maintain the loss. My knees and back had begun giving me problems not to mention cholesterol was slowly increasing. My Dr was constantly saying you need to loose weight plus I work with individuals who have many medical complications from obesity and poor diets. I'm 5 weeks out today. I don't regret the surgery and other than Constipation and trying to get enough calories Protein and Water :-) in its all been good. I realize there's a journey ahead but hopefully I will develop good eating and exercise habits along the way to achieve and maintain this new lifestyle. Good luck on your decision.

I think it's normal to question the process. I went through all those emotions and rationalizations pre op... it wasn't until I was 5-6 months into my journey that I decided yep I need to do this. I'm now 2 1/2 months post op and it's the best decision I've ever made. I only wish I'd made it much sooner.

It's been the tool I've needed for a long time, so, no, I've never thought that VSG was the wrong answer/tool for me. No regrets. Just learning to live a new lifestyle in relation to food. Exercise/Physical activity of some variety has always been a part of my life.

I'm a year and a half post op and sometimes I do have the thought like, "Holy crap, I had my stomach removed! WTF!" But I don't regret it and would totally do it again. I am happier now and healthier. No regrets at all.

Isn't medical science amazing?

When we have a blocked artery, we can have the artery opened up with a stent or balloon with heart surgery.

When a woman laboring is having problems delivering, putting her and her baby's life in danger, she can have a c-cection.

When we get cancer, we can have helpful but toxic drugs pumped through our bodies to fight it and hopefully put it in remission.

When we've tried every diet under the sun and completely screwed our metabolisms up, or we have physical issues that make it almost impossible to lose or keep weight off, we can have bariatric surgery.

No, medical intervention isn't always the way it's "meant" to be, but sometimes it's necessary.

Cosmic Fist Pump to this post !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So damn glad I listened several months ago and had my sleeve.

Life is now able......and meant.......to be lived !!!!

I love both of these posts. My surgery is 10.6 and I get second thoughts at times. But posts like these reaffirm me.

I haven't been approved for the classes yet. But I sometimes think that way. I keep reminding myself that for now I just want the chance to research my options. To keep an open mind. My step daughter is 16 months post op and my sister-in-law is 4 months. They have done amazing.

Give yourself time to take in all the info before you try to decide.

The only regret I have is not having this surgery done sooner. I actually feel like I'm finally normal as I'm finally eating normal sized food portions. For example, a normal food portion of pizza is 1 slice. Yet before I would eat an entire large pizza. I truly feel the surgery saved my life and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
