vamping 183 Posted September 6, 2016 Hi all, I couldn't find anything on this via search but I'd like to know about your favorite food storage containers. I am looking for something that's dishwasher safe and last reasonably well. We have some but it seems like the lids warp so fast plus they are all SO BIG! Thanks very much for your recommendations. Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted September 6, 2016 I like the ziploc twist n lock or similar. Basically little bowls with twist on kids. They seem to be a bit sturdier than the snap on lids. You can also get small glass containers that are even sturdier.
James Marusek 5,244 Posted September 6, 2016 I found some a year ago that were on sale at the time and I really like these. They were made by Rubbermaid. They are similar to these but mine were blue. https://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-Premier-storage-plastic-FG7J11TRCHILI/dp/B000N3Z8HE/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1473202019&sr=8-8&keywords=rubbermaid+food+storage+containers I like these for the following reasons. * When you put the lid on, you can pull a partial vacuum. * I bought mine individually rather than a set. The larger ones held 14 cups. The containers fit inside each other quite well for storage. * Primarily I would mix up a large pot of chili or Soups and use these containers to store the food which I would eat throughout the week and they worked good. Many times I would split it up putting one tub in the refrigerator and another in the freezer. There were no problems with freezing.
DaisyAmy 561 Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) My mom got me some cup sized glass containers with plastic lids. I think at Walmart? They came packaged in a clear plastic sleeve with 4 of them together, I think. I love them, because the portion size is perfect and I'm not microwaving my lunch in plastic (I take the lid off and cover with paper towel). ETA: these are them. chycky 671 Posted September 7, 2016 I love this brand called Sistema they have loads of size options, and many in small 2-4oz sizes. They are also often at Marshalls/Home Goods/TJMaxx Other than size, the main draw to them for me was that they are BPA free and were not made in China (New Zealand made). You can find on Amazon and the "mini knick knack pack" is a good assortment of 4 - 2 oz containers.
russm 18 Posted September 7, 2016 I use one cup pyrex bowls with leak proof lids. They were about $3 each at a corning pyrex outlet store. I also have a 1.5 cup rectangular container that use for salads. Sent from my SM-N930V using the BariatricPal App
vamping 183 Posted September 7, 2016 (edited) @@chycky @@russm Thank you both. I believe there's a pyrex outlet somewhere here in LV or at very least in California. I'll check those out too. Edited September 7, 2016 by vamping
Bandista 7,466 Posted September 7, 2016 Pyrex makes some great glass containers in rectangular shapes that fit really well in the fridge. We have lots of the small ones -- a great size for prepping veggies for cooking and for storing leftovers or just for eating right out of the container. The larger loaf-shaped ones are also great -- hold a lot and stack well. I prefer glass because of plastic out-gassing, etc. For freezing we use mason jars.
