Customs and Border protection

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was wondering if there are sleevers out there who flew to mexico/ are flying to Mexico from another country other than the States?

I'm having my surgery with Dr Garcia in TJ and I'm flying from New Zealand to San Diego and getting picked up to cross the border. I booked my flights/applied for visa already and I'm just wondering what people went through as they went through customs/border. Can I openly tell them about my surgery? Will it matter if I'm going to be picked up from San Diego? My mother will be coming with me and we want to stay an extra week in San Diego post operation just to make a mini holiday out of it.

Any comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated :) thank you!

I flew from Canada to San Diego, then got picked up and taken across the Mexican border just like you will. I never said anything to the custom/border people unless they asked.

I was asked what I did in Tijuana when we arrived back in Canada from customs. I just said "I had weight loss surgery", and the guy just said "ok", and that was the end of that! Nothing to worry about!

My husband and I stayed in San Diego an extra day to get a better flight home....you'll like it there. We did a lot of walking around....as much as I could do.

Everything will fall into place, don't worry and good luck!

Just make sure u have ur documents I'm place! Answer only what's asked. I hate crossing the border but with a guide you should be fine. I live in San Diego and I rarely go Mexico bc it's so much trouble but when I go, I always go with friends

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
