Leather'nLace 187 Posted September 6, 2016 I will be 2 weeks post op tomorrow. When I eat soft food (refried Beans, cottage cheese) I have horrible pain when swallowing. It feels like it's when the food hits the top of my stomach. Once it passes that point, it's fine - no pain. I'm taking itty bitty tiny bites. Can anyone explain what this is? I'm assuming it's normal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
jkhaik_42 5 Posted September 6, 2016 I'm three weeks p/o, and I have the same feeling. I'm guessing it's because there isn't the room at the opening that here once was because so much of the the stomach is removed. I also thinks it's from either taking too big of a bite or not taking enough time between bites or not thinning out the foods by mushing and chewing. I also get it when I think my stomach is full and just can't hold any more (and I'm just not recognizing I'm full for some reason). It's a process to retrain my mind to eat slowly and mush my food well in my mouth before swallowing. And then making sure I'm listening to my body and stopping when I need to. So much to think about when eating!!! I've read that it will subside. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
suzzzzz 1,005 Posted September 6, 2016 Your stomach may not be ready for something that thick. Go back to Soups and thinner liquids and try again in a couple of days. Swelling varies with everyone.
Tara1992 79 Posted September 6, 2016 This happens to me too, I thought it was an exchange of food for air. Usually after food (still on puree) gets all the way in, air comes up and I burp!! I think it's also swelling and too big of bites. Just not used to the change yet Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
