Water tastes differently after sleeve :-((

Recommended Posts

I am 8 weeks post lap sleeve & I noticed that 2 weeks after the surgery I started to feel noxious whenever I drink Water. I get thirsty yet still cannot drink Water because it tastes different. I heard this is a common complaint in sleeve pts but what is the solution? I do not drink enough water & sometimes have to force myself to take sips during the day in fear of dehydration. I hope there is a way out of this because no one can simply stop drinking water! Thx in advance

The same thing happened to me! I use to LOVE Water now I can't drink it without having Crystal Light. But honestly, it's not uncommon. Your taste in foods will also change. Keep it up..you can do it!

All liquids the past week or so suck to take in. My pallet is not liking anything I drink at the moment, but I am forcing myself to get at least 60-70 ounce of water/liquid per day.

You can have any non caloric drink - Powerade Zero, Vitamin Water Zero, Crystal Light, MiO drops, infused water, broth, sugar free popsicles. Be sure to stay hydrated!

All liquids taste the same as before the surgery to me. I have no trouble drinking fresh juices & coffee. It's only Water that's a problem

I use the flavor drops. I'm so Sick of sweet drinks. But at 7 months post op I am just starting to tolerate Water a bit better.

Good news is the flavor drops come in many many flavors so you'll find some you like.

I had the same experience with my LapBand. If you have a fruit infusing Water bottle, use some fresh or frozen fruit to flavor the Water. I use frozen Triple berry (you would probably need to strain the fruit since you just had surgery) and lemon or lime slices. I had to stop using Crystal Light because it made me crave even sweeter things.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
