Dub 9,922 Posted September 7, 2016 Wait, I'm still trying to understand the comment about nuts on tacos? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App I prefer my nuts on chins. (I digressed yet again. Dub and I are going to be sent to the principal's office). Good one. I still prefer nuts in the taco. ( music in background...theme to "Cops"... "Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?"$ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App All up in that taco. It's sad that we are a support group/informational group yet we have to worry about what we post because people are rude and ignorant. To the lady that said "geeZe you guys are too nice" and then continued with her condescending judge mental comments, we are all fighting the same battle. What makes you better? Why be ignorant. Didn't your mother ever teach you what to do if you have nothing nice to say? For the most part I've seen such supportive and awesome people on this site. Once in a while I come across the assholes. There really is no reason for it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Call me crazy.....but don't support groups provide support ? I know it's a wacky concept. Support is exactly what was given. Tacos are a bad, bad, muey malo idea at 3 weeks. This opinion was conveyed. To tell them otherwise would be.....an enabling group. I'm not better.....nor is anyone here. Some of us.....including the young lady that replied about tacos being a bad idea.....are far, far from ignorant. You see......we've been there and done that....and moved on past it. We even have nice new form fitting t-shirts to prove it. Now....you be careful not to choke on your bananas and other stuff and kindly avoid the people you think are assholes. It has been my experience that the folks who've been down this bariatric road a piece.....have traveled some of the dangerous road.....and hang around and offer advice.....are good folks. You'll seldom find assholes amongst them. They are resources. The assholes show up from elsewhere..... G'day.
Dub 9,922 Posted September 7, 2016 @@gustavio Hi!! Guess I'm the a*****e . I'll wear that badge proudly as long as I'm being a proponent for people's health and success on this journey. (Woopsies! And, hell, enjoy it with a double margarita." Anyone who did ANY research or spoke to ANY doctor knows damn well they shouldn't eat a flipping taco post-op. Come on. You know what my mom taught me? To grow up and stop looking for others to validate things you know are wrong. But I would err on the side of caution and verify it with the information someone's surgeon provided them. Besides the information packet they provide and instructions, there are some very reputable sources out there from the ASMBS, JAMA and major bariatric centers of excellence and research hospitals. There may be reasons why a person has instructions that are different and should consult their team if they have any questions. For example, someone posting that they take potassium for leg cramps could be good advice unless a person has kidney issues. That is why someone's PCP's or surgeon's office should be contacted. Other things are common sense such as not eating steak at 1 week post-op WLS. But if you aren't sure, research and ask questions to people who know you medically and have medical experience. A step further why someone should look at other reputable sources is that they may have been provided information that may not be fully accurate from their health care professional. Armed with other sources of information, you can validate the information you were provided. But if someone wants to intentionally deviate from their post WLS instructions and practice in behaviors that could be threatening to their health, disregarding that they know better and shouldn't, then they will prove Darwin's Theory is correct. ShelterDog64 2,364 Posted September 7, 2016 I've been posting on forums, support groups, debate groups, list serves, loops, etc for years...the single best 'rule' that I've found is to NOT say something on the internet in a manner you wouldn't say it to someone's face. For ME, that means not making demeaning remarks, and trying to be at least civil if not kind. Sarcasm doesn't convey well in written form, either. I know I'm a newb, so I don't have all the time the vets do here, but I do literally cringe at some of the flippant, seemingly thoughtless rudeness I see from time to time. That's my issue to deal with, of course, and my ability to cruise on by that kind of behavior will ultimately determine whether I continue to participate here or not. This forum has MUCH more good than bad, but to some new people, at times the bad really stands out

This forum has MUCH more good than bad, but to some new people, at times the bad really stands out Yes, you need to figure out if you can tolerate the sarcasm- but usually- and this is key- those with a known dry wit are usually replied to and/or laughed at by fellow members who know them- and all the good they also bring to the mix. Like the saying goes...if you can't stand the heat, lay off the Tabasco. (See how I wound that back to the hot sauce topic? Damn. I'm good!) ShelterDog64 2,364 Posted September 7, 2016 @@LisaMergs Oh, I can tolerate the sarcasm...I think that's a problem for a lot of others. I thrive on sarcasm For me, it's the meanness that is, on occasion, instantly directed at people who ask questions or post about their behavior. It serves no purpose. gustavio 439 Posted September 7, 2016 Exactly. We are all doing the same thing and have the same goal. Why not use each others experience as tools to get through the tough days or questions we may have. Listen, I know tacos aren't a good idea, you know tacos aren't a good idea. But she had a question and shouldn't be afraid to ask. Instead of saying it how I said it, you could have approached it a little more delicately. That's all I'm saying. There is no such thing as a stupid question. I have found so much useful info and so may helpful people on this site. Then there are those "others" who forget what it's like to be brand new and have those forehead slapping questions.
