Normally after everything is submitted to your insurance you wait for the approval......probably a week or so. Once the approval is received they will usually schedule a surgery date.

I go tomorrow for my 3rd appt & everything gets submitted to insurance (Bcbs fed) can't remember what they said the process was after that, does anyone know?

BCBS is typically VERY fast. Find out exactly when the office submits, wait 2 days and call the ins company. My money says they'll have an answer for you by then. Good luck!

It depends - my Program doesn't order any pre-op testing until approval for surgery is received. After my approval - I had to get an Upper GI study, EKG, lab work etc. I then meet with surgeon for pre-op appt and schedule surgery. Then I have to attend a pre-op class and have further pre-op testing the week of surgery. My Program is new at the location I go to and everything has been delayed while they work on the process. I've been somewhat of a guinea pig. My insurance approved late June and I don't have pre-op appt with surgeon until 9/14. ????

@@sherie1967 Hi. I also had BCBS Fed. Mine took about 8 days from submission to approval (there was a weekend in there). You can indeed call them or contact them via the FEP MyBlue Portal using secure messaging as well. I don't know if your team has discussed this but it was a total surprise to me at my final pre-op appointment that BCBS required me to stay in the hospital overnight. That may also be based on the type of facility your surgeon uses. I initally wasn't happy about that, but it turned out to be a good thing.

As soon as my team got the approval, I was scheduled for my pre-op appointment which included a final nutrition class, blood tests, and a session with my surgeon.

Best wishes to you and I hope you will get your approval very soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
