Frustrated with protein shakes

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was hoping you could help me find a Protein shake I can tolerate. During my pre surgery diet I drank powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury which I really liked. The only annoying thing is that I have to order it online and wait for it to come. I decided to try the GNC branded one and both the chocolate and vanilla were gross to me. Fast forward past surgery on the 29th and I'm not getting enough Protein in. I went to GNC and got the Jay Robb powder which is described as the "best tasting protein on the market" and it was anything but! They all have this very fake smell and aftertaste that Unjury doesn't have. I'm becoming frustrated because I want to increase my intake but I don't want to always rely on waiting for something to come in the mail.

Has anyone who is familiar with Unjury found some flavors that they like?

I've been making Greek yogurt smoothies with GENEPRO and frozen fruit. 45 grams but pretty filling. I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow and takes me about 45 minutes to drink so may be too soon for you

I'm going to take your word for it and try them out. The Total Lean shake was of the ones I didn't like but maybe the pre made ones will be okay

I second or third this! The total lean comes in a regular (sweetened with sucralose I think) and a "natural" (sweetened w stevia) I find the latter much much tastier but am not sure if it comes pre-mixed. I just shake each one up individually in a Blender Bottle. There's also a vegan version but I haven't looked at the numbers on that one.

Also ditto-ing the use of GENEPRO powder! Make anything into a high Protein thing and in my experience it's not detectable.

I use these premise as well - I love the strawberries n cream, pumpkin spice, vanilla, chocolate, and banana cream (which I had to buy online because GNC isn't currently carrying it in liquid form.

I bought Peanut Butter GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 Original at GNC this week and it is my primary Protein Shake now, but I make it into a smoothie. One scoop Protein, skim milk, some ice, and a splash of GNC Lean shake liquid chocolate, and 5 seconds on my Magic Bullet and I'm a HAPPY camper! So yummy, and not too sweet. I am now happy on my all-liquid diet!post-292853-14731099282345_thumb.jpg

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
